Fellow walkers of Hive!

Brooklands is a large open area standing as a monument and relic of Britains air and land heritage. At one point it was a motor racing track and an RAF base at the same time.

Before The Great War and WW2, the airfield was home to several big aircraft manufacturers and flight training schools. The bouncing bomb was also designed and developed here.

Roughly three quarters of the original racing track from 1907 remains visible. It had a unique design with long straights and two steep banks similar to modern Nascar tracks. This layout made it suitable for multiple land speed record attempts.

In 1926, the first ever British Grand Prix was held here, the speed record for the track at the time was 143mph. Racing ceased in 1939 with the onset of WWII.

In present day, the whole area is a huge mixed use area with industrial & housing estates, a hotel, a nature reserve, Mercedes Benz World complete with a test track & an air & motor museum.

Starting from the north, is Mercedes Benz World and the Brooklands Air and Vehicle Museum.

The pic below is looking end on to the bank of the track.

In the south, a community park takes up about a quarter of the space within the track.

I spent the early evening wandering around the perimeter and exploring the old track, then stuck around for golden hour!

The old control tower is preserved and now a serves as a headquarters for a local company.

Looking west from the halfway point of the larger curve of the track. The retail park takes up about half of the area within the track.

Walking along the street that follows alongside part of the larger curve then cuts through it.

Looking north towards the part of the track that no longer exists. Instead, it was redeveloped into a long avenue of residential and commercial leading to the smaller banked curve in the distance.

Looking north along the old runway to the left of centre, parallel to the avenue in the image above.
Directly ahead is Mercedes Benz World and takes up the last quarter of space within the track.

After the air museum closed for the day, I walked back north to check it out from the air. Golden hour added to the atmosphere!

I had a lot of fun flying around such an icon of the skies like Concorde. I have visited other aircraft in the past, but this was something else.

This place was a great place to explore and I recommend it to anyone.

Until the next time!
