We all know the effect of a clean environment is in our lives. A clean environment can transform our lives both physically and how we communicate in our environment. So from keeping our home clean to the streets, to the market and every part of it, hygiene and sanitation is very, very important and this can keep away disease from us.
And when we are healthy and free from sickness, because we are free from sickness as a result of the clean environment, our spirits are high. So in a world where there are illness that are preventable, when we embrace simple hygiene, it can really make a difference.
Although I would love to share some hearts from our observance, of how a clean and healthy environment can affect your life. Below are some practical ways to achieve this:
- Access to Clean Water
One of the ways to do it is to take clean water. If we as an African community can have access to good water, or if the government does not provide, we can do it by ourselves by boiling our water and making it safe for drinking and food for people too.
I grew up in a place where my mother would always advise us to boil our water before drinking and it's the habit I've learnt. The clean water is very good. So when we clean our water, sometimes we use some vinegar, sometimes we use some juice to water it. So some ways to clean our water are budget friendly.
We can use the local methods if you cannot access, if you cannot have access to those expensive ones. So this is one of the very important ways of keeping our environment clean, which is making our water clean too.
- Keeping Our Homes Clean
The other one is keeping our comfort clean. So if you live in a village or in a city or a town, it's good to keep your comfort clean. Because they say charity begins at home. So when we sweep our comfort clean, we remove dust, we remove all those unwanted things that is not healthy to our environment. Especially during dry seasons were there are a lot of dust everywhere that can contaminate everything we have at home or around us.
At least every week we have a nice clean up, even with our neighbours or with our families. And we undergo sanitation for the community. And this can also be a burning experience that keeps our environment constantly clean.
- Proper Waste Management
The other one is proper waste management. That is number three. So keeping up or piling up waste for too long can be very harmful to our environment.
That is why we need a safe place to keep it clean. So we have to get rid of our wastes. Like plastic balls, pills, cans and all those plastic things. Or we can just keep them to where they are being recycled or will be used for important purposes. Instead of keeping it littered everywhere in our environment. So we should avoid burning and polluting the air also. Because it does not do good to the environment.
- Personal Hygiene
The next one is personal hygiene. Take care of yourself always. Always wash your hands, bathe properly, wash your clothes. Use soap to wash your hands after using the restroom or before eating. Encourage your children or those around you to live a healthy life. To take care of yourself. Also, keep the shared space like the bathroom, toilet and everything that is being shared clean. To prevent disease or contamination from one person to another.
- Educating Others
And the next we do, you know in places like Africa, there are few people that understand the importance of cleanliness. But when we educate people, we inspire them. We tell them the benefits. And the consequence of keeping the environment clean. It helps us to improve as a nation and as a continent.
The clean environment is very important to us and everyone around us. So when we keep our environment clean, it helps us. It saves us from sickness, diseases and everything. So together let us try to be hygienic. And make the world better by keeping our environment clean.
