Today didn’t go as planned. At all. With the kids back to school and me back at work, I had this neat little plan: two solid 5km walks and maybe an extra one in the evening. The kind of day that looks perfect in a fitness tracker graph.
Reality? A different story.
I managed one 4km walk, which admittedly felt good under the blue skies and along the canal. The wildflowers and reflections in the water were a nice reminder that movement isn’t just about steps — it’s about presence. Then the day took a turn: an unexpected long afternoon at the ER with my daughter.
For a while, things felt very heavy. The “what ifs” started circling in my head like vultures. Thankfully, the outcome wasn’t as bad as it could have been, but the journey ahead means more appointments and more uncertainty.
By the time we got home, I had just under 7,000 steps logged. Way below the day’s ambitious goal — but in the bigger picture, maybe enough. Because the truth is, fitness progress isn’t always about distance or speed. Sometimes, it’s just about carving out a pocket of time to breathe, walk, and ground yourself in the middle of chaos.
