Hive and what it offers vs Nostr
Today I came across a very interesting interview that @starkerz gave during a Bitfinex Talk in Colombia. In it, he discusses decentralized chains in general, but also focuses specifically on Hive (starting around 3:58). While several related topics are covered (eg. Hive Debit Card), I want to highlight this part in particular.
One of the main points raised is the comparison between Hive and the Nostr protocol, which is often seen as a kind of competitor. Nostr isn’t based on blockchain technology, but like Hive, it offers a post-to-earn model where users can earn sats for their content. @starkerz makes some strong arguments for why Hive is the stronger alternative. I especially agree with his observation that Nostr is heavily centered around Bitcoin-related content, whereas Hive supports a much wider range of topics.
This was also pointed out by @vikisecrets at the last Vienna Hive Meetup, which I had the chance to attend. He noted that roughly 90% of Nostr’s content is Bitcoin-focused, a limitation that makes the platform feel narrow in scope. Having tested Nostr myself, I can confirm this impression. In its current form, I don’t see it becoming more than a niche platform.
What makes Hive unique
To me, this whole discussion highlights two key points. First, Hive does face competition, post-to-earn is not a concept unique to us. However, second and more importantly, Hive holds a truly unique position when it comes to offering diverse and engaging content for all kinds of people. Whether you’re a crypto investor, gamer, writer, blogger, artist, photographer, or even a chef and food enthusiast - there’s a place for you on Hive.
This talk is really worth to tune in guys so have a look! Have you tried Nostr yet? What is your opinion?
PS: @starkerz also mentioned in the beginning a book of him coming out soon, anyone knows details about that?
