China manufacturing activity picks up in September — official PMI still shows contraction

"China’s official gauge for manufacturing activity showed a smaller-than-expected contraction"

--- A contraction means that it picks up? Not that it matters very much, because all these numbers essentially just mean that there is stagnation. Well, if you believe these official numbers. Most probably, China is still in a recession.

"China’s official manufacturing PMI has stayed below the 50-benchmark separating growth from contraction since April"

--- And yet, they still believe that China's GDP is growing by 5%.

"China’s economy expanded by 5.3% in the first half year, putting the country on track to meet its full-year growth target of 5%."

A new China tech visa has caught India's attention - now locals aren't happy

"But the K visa, which went into effect on Wednesday, was thrust into the public spotlight last week, when an Indian outlet referred to it as "China's H-1B" - a reference to the US visa for skilled workers which was, last month, targeted by an executive order by Donald Trump. Indians dominate the H-1B programme, making up more than 70% of the recipients in recent years. The Indian media report was picked up widely in China, stoking concern - and even fears - amongst the public over whether benefits extended to foreigners would increase competition in a sluggish job market - and in a country that has traditionally not been a major immigration destination for foreign professionals."

--- As if suddenly millions of Indians would swarm into China to work there. Ridiculous. Again, this visa most likely targets only foreign-born Chinese or Chinese studying abroad. But the upheaval again shows nicely how bad the situation in the Chinese economy actually is.

China curbs use of Nokia and Ericsson in telecoms networks

"State buyers of telecom equipment would require bidders to include detailed documentation on every component in their systems and the portion of local content"

--- When other countries do something like that, that's totally unfair. But when China does it, no problem at all.
