Left behind

Summer vacation, and all the students are home from school, as are their belongings. Well … most of their belongings anyway. There is always something that gets left behind by someone, and this time, the item in question seemed to speak loudly about the changing times and cherished arts that seem at risk of fading away.

The annual physical

At some point in the recent past, I seemed to have crossed an invisible line and entered into a new chapter. Instead of rushing me in and out of rooms from one exam to the next, the doctors and nurses have started telling me what to expect. Things like near-sightedness, ringing in the airs, and typical aches and pains.

Birds know

Driving through the city earlier in the week, I was struck by a massive white crane flying between tall buildings and heading out of town. Most likely, it had just come from a small pond in a nearby park.

Taken by surprise

Passing through these Torii gates on the side of a mountain, suddenly something surprisingly loud and large buzzed past my ear.

**(4)**
**vrooom … the passing sound of a grasshopper**

Kids

What could be better than coming home to a happy two-year old smiling, clapping, and saying Daddy, daddy, daddy?

In the park

Isn’t it funny how something can catch your eye at any time?

These days I spend most weekends at parks with soccer fields, taking my son from one soccer tournament to the next. Last weekend, though, instead of just watching, we had a father son game, so I was able to play.

Upon leaving, sunburnt and exhausted, a slight breeze rattled a hibiscus tree just as I walked by and the flowers all shook in a way that grabbed my attention.

Who controls the weather?

I suppose nothing much needs to be said about this one.
