A Labor of Love

Today in the United States we celebrate Labor Day. In fact, this whole weekend wraps a lot of significance into a few short days. It's pretty weird that on a Monday morning I am sitting on a couch writing a post versus sitting in my office. It's also a bit weird that I am writing this post so late in the day. Usually between 6:30 and 7:30 I am crafting my words and then by 7:30 they are published on the blockchain.

Instead, this morning I slept in, got up and went for a mile walk with @mrsbozz, and then spent the morning in the kitchen cooking breakfast and doing dishes. It's a bit weird to just be sitting down at 10:00 AM to write my post.

As I said, this holiday encompasses a variety of things. While the official reason is to celebrate the economic and social achievements of the American worker and to remember the struggles and hardships they overcame to get us where we are today, it's pretty rare the number of people that actually celebrate that.

Instead, for most people as @ericvancewalton said in his recent post, this is more about the unofficial end of summer and the start of a new school year. Despite the fact that many of my family and inlaws are union employees, and I do appreciate the five day work week that the unions fought for, this is just more of a three day weekend for me.

I find myself thinking a lot about HIVE this morning. Apparently there has been some more drama in the ranks. It would seem a day doesn't go by that I don't see someone complaining about the community, downvotes, upvotes, fill in the blank... It's sad for me because I really hope and believe that HIVE can be something awesome.

It kind of reminds me of the omelet that I have been sharing photos of in this post. I've been working on making a good Omelet for close to two decades now. They truly are a labor of love and if you get just one thing wrong, you basically are just having scrambled eggs for breakfast.

The flip is the hardest part

That's what I discovered this morning. I finally got a pan that I think will do the trick, I watched the guy at the hotel make my omelet dozens of times, and honestly, this is the closest I have come to making a perfect omelet. That flip was brutal though. As soon as I tried to flip the eggs and toppings over, things just fell apart.

I think we seen that a lot in HIVE too. People try to flip or pivot. They move away from what they enjoy or what brought them here in the first place and then boom they end up with scrambled eggs. I'll be the first to admit, I have chased upvotes. I won't deny that at all, but for the most part I blog about what I enjoy blogging about. As a lot of people say at the end of their blog posts, my content is my own and I am dang proud of it.

It's a labor of love

I'm not honestly sure where I am going with all of this. I think my mind is still in vacation mode. As I said, writing a post from the couch puts me in a totally different headspace than doing it in my office.

I guess what I am trying to say is although HIVE can feel like a second job at times, I really love this community and what we have built here. I hope that eventually we can find an end to all the drama or at the very least some kind of detente, and we can just move towards building this into a community that people want to visit every day.

If we put a lot of love into it eventually we will get it right and have the perfect omelet and not just scrambled eggs.
