Happy New Year, Hive Friends;
On December 8, 2021, I published a post in the Proof of Brain community: When the price of Hive drops, what are you going to do? Create. Curate. Diversify. Deposit.
Source: CoinGecko
Since that post, Hive has continued its price decline from $1.68 to the current price of $1.18. Of course, as recently as November of 2021, it was hanging around $3. So, yeah - we've seen a dip. Or perhaps, a splash...
So, I asked the question: What will you do when the price drops?
Create? I've been enjoying various fun, fascinating, and fantastic posts from all kinds of posters on topics ranging from Art to Zoology. Every day the curation trail service I subscribe to automatically Upvotes the best content from all Hive Communities.
Some of my favorite posts demonstrate how to do something, from preparing a recipe to painting a picture. Also really cool are the many creative people out there drawing, building, or photographing. I am amazed at all of the talent working here on the blockchain!
Perhaps closest to my heart is all of the Travel posts folks share from all over the planet. As a Traveler at heart, these posts create all kinds of ideas. My future ventures out into the world are influenced by what I hear and read from others. And, with Covid continuing to make travel quite complex, it serves as a sort of proxy for the journies I am not yet able to make.
And although not precisely travel posts, those of you that post about your local area or country create the same desire within me. With so many excellent posts coming from southeast Asia, Thailand, Viet Nam, and Indonesia have risen to the top of my travel plans for 2023. (Yeah, I plan a long way out!)
On my end, I continue to create - writing, as it is my passion. I'm posting some of my material here on Hive first and later on my website. Hive provides a great perspective on my efforts and has become part of a critical rewriting process.

Since I'm running out of existing quality travel pictures, my posting of travel-related material has slowed down quite a bit. I am, however, preparing for a new trip abroad in the next few months. I'm hoping to get back into high gear with writing on my favorite topic, with a trove of fresh photos and experiences, soon.
Have you been Curating? I have. I read every post from my curation trail, and I try to comment on most of them, too. From that experience, one element has become very clear to me: people want to receive and read your comments!
The reaction to my leaving a comment on posts has been phenomenal. Post authors appreciate the time spent by others to leave a comment. Many are astounded that anyone did, at all. I wish more readers left a comment. It would encourage most quality posts and spread curation awards around much more liberally.
Did you diversify your holdings? I know I didn't. lol If I had, however, my account value would be higher today. Since November, Hive has dropped over 50%, but the Hive-backed Dollar has remained relatively strong. Any funds stored in HBD would have remained virtually locked in their value.
I'm relatively philosophical on the topic of Hive, HBD, and Hive Power (HP), however. Perhaps that's why I'm not a world-class investor. My desire has always been to increase my Hive Power, and I continue to shove most of my rewards and author earnings into staked tokens, even as their value decreases.
The good news, of course, is that once Hive climbs in value in the future, those staked tokens will rise in value, as well. And so, despite what I suspect is excellent advice - diversifying your holdings among the three tokens - I continue to be All-in with Staked Hive tokens. Call me a long-term Hive optimist...
Have you deposited any funds into your account or transferred any other crypto balances into Hive? I suspect we're moving towards a floor regarding price, and so buying Hive is potentially becoming more and more attractive.
Before the big run-up in Hive prices beginning in February of last year, Hive traded much lower. My Day Trader days are long over, but I remain hopeful that we'll see firm support around $.50 at the worst. I don't expect we'll see prices fall that far. But if we do, HBD Savings APR, even at half of what they are now - around 12%- will look pretty damn good compared to other investments. I'm keeping my powder dry.
There's not much I, or most any single one of us, can do to control or influence prices. I can, however, continue to build community with my fellow Hivers. I can create good content. I can curate other great content produced by others. And I can roll those investments back into Hive, HBD, and staked Hive to support my friends and community.
If, and when, prices rebound? I'll be ready - with a more significant stake - to capitalize on the upswing. And if we don't see prices rebound for a long time? Well, at least I will still be hanging out with all of you here on Hive.
Money isn't everything, folks. I'd be happy just to be a Dolphin... Even a poor one.
For now? It's Create, Curate, Diversify (probably not), Deposit (at some point.)
Cheers!
