A lot of us grow up believing that we are our thoughts. When the mind starts whispering negative or fearful ideas, we grab onto them as if they’re the truth. No wonder stress and confusion pile up. But there’s a different way you can step back and simply notice your thoughts instead of being ruled by them.
Take the example of someone about to give a big presentation. Their mind starts shouting, “You’re going to fail. Everyone will judge you.” If they actually give in to those thoughts and allow it to take over them, They will gradually be taken over by fear, This has a chance of ruining their performance. But if they can boldly say to themselves , "this is just a thought , and not a reality."

A way i normally use to trick my mind into distancing from those thoughts is by doing it this way , let us say that i am awake at night and then the thought of worrying about money , relationship ,crept in. I won't resist it , i won't absorb it either, what i will do is to sit back and watch them the way i watch crowds or maybe going across the sky. This allows me to create that little distance, as time goes , the worries starts to loose its grip on me.
According to psychology , you are not your thoughts , rather you are just the awareness behind those thoughts.
Don't tangle with it rather create some space and distance, the more space and distance you create , the nore calmness and clarity you get.

Hours of meditation is not even really needed to do this, just take some few hours everyday to notice whatever comes to your mind, don't resist them , don't chase them, don't fight them, just allow them to pass. as time goes on , you will come to realize that those thoughts are just temporal visitors and if can learn to let them go, them it will become better and okay for both our mental and moral health.
