I don’t know how true this is, but this morning, I woke up to one of the craziest stories I’ve heard in a long time. A Brazilian billionaire died a while back, and he left his entire fortune to the footballer Neymar. Not because they’re related, or even friends. As a matter of fact, the only relationship they’ve ever had is simply a footballer and a fan type. Because that was all the billionaire was, a fan.
From what I got, the billionaire liked Neymar a lot and probably also liked his ideals and what he stood for. which was why he was willing to leave him his fortune of over 700 million pounds, which is way more than the football star’s net worth, I think. I don’t know that much about football.
Why exactly am I talking about this? This feels like something we’d watch in movies, where some billionaire would leave his fortune to one individual who had no ties at all to him. But from the look of things, this really did happen, and it just shows how much one person can impact another. It’s likely that they never met each other when the billionaire was alive, but the latter was definitely watching him and following up on him. That’s how crazy it is.
Funny enough, this is not just unique to him, there are other cases when fans have shown great love to celebrities they admire. Back when BB Naija was still a force to be reckoned with in my country, I could remember when some of the mates were given cars by the fans after leaving the house. Even artists and actors get gifts from their fans as well.
Sometimes, when you touch lives, gifts might be the only way that they can pay you back. This is something that teachers, doctors, and even engineers would experience a lot. While this may not be on a grand scale, it always carries on a deeper meaning. If you’re a teacher, then you know that at one time or another, the parents of your pupils have come to give you gifts. Not as a bribe, but simply to thank you for what you’ve done for their kid.
Even doctors get it as well, especially when they help save a life. And I think this is one of the reasons such things are frowned upon in the profession, because it could get to a point where they start expecting gifts before they carry out their duties. Or using the lack of it to punish those who have been placed in their care.
So, what am I saying in essence? There will always be a reason for gifts, especially when you’re the kind of person who works hard to make an impact on the people who follow you. The more lives you touch, the more they’d feel the urge to help you out. It’s up to you to decide how to utilize that influence. You could try to take advantage of them? Or you could keep churning out value.
I know there was something the billionaire saw in Neymar that made him leave his fortune to the footballer. And I just hope that as time goes by, Neymar will keep being that person and even better. And for the rest of us, let’s try to be people who others will be willing to emulate due to the impact we’ve had on their lives.
