On Saturday, I spent the entire day basically outdoors. It was a hectic and stressful day for me, but I’m glad that at the end of it all, I was able to get what I wanted to do done, and I tried to have a good time while at it. As a result of that, though, my day ended very late, and I didn’t even have the time or strength to see a movie. Usually, I use movies to help me sleep.

Anyway, this morning, being Sunday, I decided to see a movie as well, and then I went onto Netflix to see what I could watch. And therein came my problem. You see, I wanted to watch Alice in Borderland, but then, as I went through the platform, I kept seeing more and more options. There were just so many movies and shows available. All that was required was for me to simply pick one and start watching it.

But did I do that? Sadly, no. I spent way too much time trying to pick a movie that I lost the little time I had, and soon had to get to work. So at the end of it all, I didn’t see any movie. But then, what exactly happened? Why didn’t I see the movie anymore? After all, the movie was right there, and my device was also in my hand. How did I miss it?

This reminds me that many times, choice comes with a price. If Alice in Borderland was the only movie on Netflix, I would have simply watched it and been done with it, just like that. However, just as I’m considering the show, I’m also looking at several K-Dramas that seem to be just as good. Then, I’ll see Hollywood flicks that also promise to be enjoyable and some Nollywood movies that I’m sure I’ll enjoy.

So, I keep scrolling, and scrolling. I keep reading blurbs after blurbs. And in the end, an hour has passed, the platform has been chopping my data… but I’m yet to see any movie. That’s the price of choice. The more options you have, the less likely you are to actually make a choice. Because every time, you’ll keep considering what you could have, instead of focusing on what your one choice will give you.

It’s the same way it happens when you go shopping, you see a product you love, but it comes in several flavors or colors. But do you take one? No, instead, you take all the flavors and colors. And in the end, you might just end up not using them at all. That’s the annoying thing. This is all part of who we are as a species. That’s why children have their choices made for them, because the parent is supposed to know better.

So, what exactly am I trying to say here? Honestly, I have no idea. The thought just struck me earlier today, and I felt compelled to share it. Choice is one of man’s greatest gifts, and I’ll always be in support of it because it gives us freedom. But then, doesn’t that freedom come at a price? When we have only one option, it’s easier to go with it. But with two, it gets a bit trickier. Then four options, then ten, and then a dozen… the more chances you think you have, the harder it will be to confidently make a choice.

Well, it’s all good!
