What exactly is happening to the world? Violence seems to be the order of the day, and everywhere you turn, one person is getting killed or maimed. When you look at the universe as a whole, you’d find that humans are the only species that have a weird fascination for killing their own kind without any valid reason. Other creatures of the world do it for specific purposes and to achieve a particular aim, but humans have the weirdest reasons.
Or even no reason at all. Should I talk about the war that’s currently brewing in hot spots all over the world? It seems like everyone else is watching while parts of the world are going into war, one after the other. Or should I also talk about the terrorism that’s turning other countries inside out? What about banditry and other government-sanctioned inhumane acts against their own people? ‘
Everywhere you look, nowhere is secure. No one is safe at all. As a regular citizen, all you want is just to raise your family and live to the ripe old age of 90, so you can go on to meet your maker. What’s so difficult about that? But no! Instead, people somewhere would be plotting how to go to war with another country. Some will be planning rain bullets down on unsuspecting innocents.
At this point, no one is safe at all. It can come for anyone. Just a few days ago, the world heard about Charlie Kirk and how he was assassinated right in front of the world. A few days before that, here in Nigeria, a young lady’s life was taken simply because her ex couldn’t allow her to move on. Some time before that, another young lady’s life was stolen from her by a random act of violence. In states of Nigeria, villages are being burned down, lives are gutted down by bullets.
And I have to ask, to what end? Really, when does it all end? How long can we cope with this? When do we decide that enough is enough? Because it’s beginning to look like we’re now numb to these pains. We’ll hear the large number of people who have lost their lives, and we’ll just flip over to the next trending issue. This is the problem with society today. We find it hard to stay on the matters that are important.
At this point, I don’t even know what’s next for humanity, because with the way things are going, it’s beginning to look like it’s gonna get worse. Some countries have to deal with wars, others have to deal with terrorists and bandits, the ones that don’t have these issues also have to deal with gun violence. So, does this mean that there is no place we can go and we’d be able to sleep peacefully without being scared for our lives? Are we always going to be scared of what will come next for us?
Honestly, I’m scared for our future. I’m scared for the coming generation and the world we’re leaving behind for them. Maybe we’re slowly getting into the dystopian world that we’ve seen so often in movies. This is how it would start.
