What's up splinterfam and hivers! Welcome to my participation in this week's community engagement challenge. This time, we're invited to talk about cards that have been somewhat overlooked but have enormous potential. At first, I thought about using cards from the Wild format, but that would be too simple; there are so many cards forgotten in time and space. So, I decided to focus this post on the Modern format, where many new players are just beginning to learn the game's mechanics. > Que tal splinterfam y hivers! Bienvenidos a mi participación al community engagement challenge de esta semana, para esta ocasión somos invitados a hablar de aquellas cartas que de alguna manera han sido ignoradas pero que tienen un enorme potencial. En un primer momento pensé en utilizar cartas que forman parte del formato wild, pero eso sería muy sencillo hay muchísimas cartas olvidadas en el tiempo y el espacio. Así que decidí enfocar este post en el formato moderno donde muchos jugadores nuevos están comenzando a conocer las mecánicas del juego.

Then, that reminded me of this brilliant card, called Kelan Gaines. His fate was as interesting as it was tragic because, in its lore, this card serves as a hinge between Rebellion and Conclave. Something that sounded excellent, but the tragic thing is that, being a card that was sandwiched between the disappointment that was Rebellion and the Fomo of Conclave, no one paid attention to it when it came out in the exclusive store. It only cost 50 vouchers and is a powerful dual-elemental card, but it was ignored because it came out in that transition between Rebellion and Conclave. I bought it, and the reason was that this card attacks ranged/magic units in the second position, and there are very few magic units with that ability. The ones I'm familiar with are Dwarven Wizard and Captain Katie, which is a Gladiator card and is very effective. So, let's dust off this card and evaluate the advantages it can offer us in a format like Modern. > Entonces eso me recordó esta genial carta, llamada Kelan Gaines, su destino fue tan interesante como trágica porque en su lore esta carta carta hace de visagra entre Rebellion y Conclave, algo que sonaba excelente pero lo trágico es que al ser una carta que estaba entre la decepción que fue Rebellion y el Fomo por Conclave nadie le puso atención cuando salió en la tienda exclusiva, solo costaba 50 vouchers y es una potente carta bi elemental pero fue ignorada por salir en esa transición entre Rebellion y Conclave. We're in a Modern format battle with a large mana limit and the ability to use fire, life, death, and dragon splinters. The only ruleset for this battle is that all units have the Thorns ability, so using melee units is a risk we can't take. Therefore, the units we'll focus on are magic and ranged attacks. > Estamos en una batalla del formato moderno con un amplio límite de mana y la posibilidad de usar los splinters de fuego, vida, muerte y dragón. La única ruleset que esta planteada para esta batalla es que todas las unidades tienen la habilidad thorns, por lo que usar unidades melé es un riesgo que no podemos correr, entonces las unidades en las que nos vamos a enfocar son de ataque mágico y rango.

We'll use the dragon splinter to have a greater number of options available, but Kavor Skarn also has a great advantage: his low mana cost. Although this isn't the case for this battle, this gives us room to maneuver when facing low-mana battles. We don't have multiple Drakoshan units to take advantage of their +1 speed ability, but we do have good magic damage units. > Usaremos el splinter dragón para tener una mayor cantidad de opciones disponibles, pero además Kavor Skarn tiene una gran ventaja y es su bajo coste de mana y aunque para esta batalla no es el caso, esto nos da margen de maniobra cuando debes enfrentar batallas de bajo mana. Using a melee tank is a risk we can't take, so we'll use a monster with a lot of health, and the right one is Ulundin Overseer. We can afford to use it because of the large amount of mana we have, and although it has the flank ability, we won't place any melee units in the second position; we'll use only ranged and magic units. > Utilizar un tanque melé es un riesgo que no podemos correr asi que usaremos un monstruo con gran cantidad de vida y el indicado es Ulundin Overseer, podemos darnos el lujo de usarlo por la gran cantidad de mana con el que contamos y aunque tiene la habilidad flank, no ubicaremos ninguna unidad melé en la segunda posición, usaremos exclusivamente unidades de rango y magia.

Another high-mana cost unit, but with very good stats. Night Reaper has the wingbreak ability, so its priority target is flying monsters, no matter where it's positioned. We'll place it in the second position since it's very likely our opponent will use flying ranged units. > Otra unidad de alto costo de mana, pero con muy buenas estadísticas. Night Reaper cuenta con la habilidad wingbreak, así que su objetivo prioritario son monstruos con la habilidad volar sin importar donde este ubicado, lo ubicaremos en la segunda posición ya que es muy seguro que nuestro oponente use unidades de rango volador.

Our main card, in addition to being a dual-elemental dragon/fire card, this card has great speed and good magic damage that precisely targets ranged/magic units in the second row. This is the great advantage that many overlook about this card, and one that we'll take advantage of in this battle. > Nuestra carta protagonista, además de ser una carta bi elemental dragón/fuego, esta carta tiene una gran velocidad y un buen daño mágico que apunta precisamente a las unidades rango/mágicas en la segunda fila así que esta es la gran ventaja que muchos obvian de esta carta y que aprovecharemos para esta batalla.

Janni Rebel is a card I love to use with melee units in second position to take advantage of her flank ability, and she boosts it with her second ability: inspire. But under these conditions, we'll take advantage of her high HP and good damage output to complement Night Reaper's attacks. > Janni Rebel es una carta que me encanta usarlo con unidades melé en la segunda posición para aprovechar su habilidad flank y lo potencia con su segunda habilidad: inspire. Pero bajo estas condiciones aprovecharemos su gran cantidad de vida y buen daño para complementar los ataques de Night Reaper.

When it comes to battles where we only have to use ranged/magic units or only magic units, I prefer Mystic Mudbinder over Janni Rebel, as this card has a significant amount of defense, making it ideal for battles exclusively for units with defense. > Cuando se trata de batallas donde solo tenemos que usar unidades rango/magia o solo unidades mágicas, prefiero más a Mystic Mudbinder que a Janni Rebel ya que esta carta cuenta con una destacable cantidad de defensa, lo que lo hace ideal para batallas exclusivas para unidades con defensa.

We close out our lineup with Chaos Battle Mage, the only ranged damage card in our team. I honestly can't recommend this card enough; it deals incredible damage, pierces defenses, and for 8 mana, it has a good amount of HP and defense. It's the second fastest card in our lineup, so it will be one of the first units to attack. We'll place it in the back position to cover our rearguard. > Cerramos nuestra alineación con Chaos Battle Mage, la única carta con daño rango de nuestro equipo. Our opponent used a somewhat similar lineup, except that he doesn't have a unit that attacks the second position like Kelan Gaines. If we add to that the fact that Night Reaper attacks flying units, we can say that we have a slight advantage. > Nuestro oponente utilizó una alineación un tanto similar, solo que no cuenta con una unidad que ataque a la segunda posición como Kelan Gaines, si a eso sumamos que Night Reaper ataca las unidades voladoras, podemos decir que tenemos una ligera ventaja.

In the first two rounds, we see Kelan use his Snipe ability to synergize with Night Reaper to eliminate the first enemy magic unit. Later, with Mistic and Janni, we take out the enemy tank, eliminating two crucial units in the enemy lineup. > En los 2 primeros rounds podemos ver como Kelan, con su habilidad snipe hace sinergia con Night Reaper para eliminar la primera unidad mágica enemiga, posteriormente con Mistic y Janni damos de baja al tanque enemigo, eliminamos así a 2 unidades cruciales en la alineación enemiga.

In the third round, Chaos Battle Mage takes care of the tank Grimbardun Fighter, while Janni takes out Sorrow Harvester. Finally, Arandurel is eliminated by Kelan and Janni's combined attack, securing a near-flawless victory. > En el 3er round Chaos Battle Mage se encarga de eliminar al tanque Grimbardun Fighter, mientras Janni elimina a Sorrow Harvester para finalmente Arandurel es eliminada por el ataque combinado de Kelan y Janni para concretar una victoria casi impecable.

- Kelan Gaines has been a card with a sad fate. The fom for Arcane Conclave dulled the shine of this brilliant card. The ability to attack the secondary row and be used with the Death and Dragon classes give it unique versatility. Perhaps this card can be easily neutralized with the great damage output and enormous amount of health of the Chaos Legion/Riftwatchers cards. It has enormous utility in the Modern format, and considering its bloodline relationship, we are looking at a strategic card for ranked battles. > - Kelan Gaines ha sido una carta con un triste destino, el fomo por Conclave Arcana opacó el brillo de esta genial carta, poder atacar la fila secundaria y poder usarse con las clases muerte y dragón le dan una versatilidad única.
