I have no patience in my life for defective things. Nothing is built to last forever. When items break, they inevitably do it at an inconvenient time. While they ultimately will be thrown away since they can't be repaired, I find it therapeutic to destroy them before they make their way to the trash.
I had help cutting down a curly willow tree that was obnoxious and dropped branches all over the backyard. I had to pick up the branches before I could mow the lawn. I now use the stump for cutting wood and for destroying defective items already on their way to the trash heap.
Today's item on the chopping block is an old full-wall shelf and cubby storage rack left behind by the previous owners. It's in my son's room and takes up a lot of space. We originally used it for storing his clothes and books, but it's an inefficient way to store them. We ended up getting a standalone bookshelf for free and will be getting him a full-length dresser. That means the current shelves have to go!
I thought I had a picture of it all assembled but was mistaken. To give you an idea of how it looked, here is a similar concept.
The idea is that the bottom row is cubby cubes, with open space above, which act like shelves. Then, about 2 feet above the cubby is another cubby, all laid out in a grid format.
Here are what the cubbies look like.
The cubbies are made of particle board, so I wasn't expecting much resistance.

The trash can filled up pretty quickly just from the smaller cube cubbies, so I had to save the taller ones for another session after trash pick-up.
