HELLO HIVE
When you look at the lush maize field, it is quite obvious that the maize is growing strong with healthy stalks reaching for the sky.
However a closer inspection shows that there is a growing challenge
The weeds are gradually taking over, effectively covering every space they can find on the field, limiting the growth of the maize in so many ways.
Why Weeding Matters Now
It causes so much damage to the point where you can hardly recognize the crop that was once thriving, turning the whole thing into a shadow of itself.
Gradually dragging life out of the plant as it continues to strive for the available nutrients that it can get.
It is a process that we could hardly observe except for its presence, which we believe, based on what we've learnt over the years, to be a major hindrance to the growth of our crops.
How to go about it
That depends on some factors like the height of the maize crop, the kinds of weeds we are dealing with, and how far the weed has taken control.
You can make use of herbicide when the maize is over a month old and the weeds are thick, making it difficult to weed, but you still need some level of expertise.
But if the plant is younger than that, then I recommend weeding it manually or holding on till it grows a little bit, and that's if the weeds are not much.
So, when weeding becomes Paramount, I have to put a pause on any other work right now and place my priority on weeding the farm before I lose my crops to the weeds.
