Blood Moon inspo

This piece is part of me testing out a new style that is leaning into heavy silhouettes, saturated color, and surreal moods plus limited colors of three. I wanted the moon to feel monstrously huge almost like it is swallowing the sky, with the city below waiting to be crushed by it. I was inspired by the blood moon photos I saw on my feed last night.

I started with rough brush textures to shape the building silhouettes, then layered in some scratch like textures in red to give it a faint light effect from the red sky. To soften it a bit I added details like the iron spires, railings, and windows using finer line drawings. It’s kind of a mashup between expressionism and comic art and less about realism. It is going more for the atmosphere.

For me, this was about stepping outside my usual comfort zone and letting color and shape dictate the feeling before detail. I’m still figuring out this style, and tried to still incorporate that paper cut out feel that I used to do on my previous drawings. Maybe I would do something similar in the future and let my style develop further.

Cheers, Krisette
