Never would I have imagined turning a pumpkin pie into something like this. Normally I would draw the food and make it look delicious focusing on the colors and maybe on the texture of the food like it is real. Today, for the sept-amber drawing challenge prompt : pumpkin pie I made this cute fellow. Is it making faces or is it doing that cheer with its hands raised in excitement and legs are about to leap for joy.
This is my initial direction. Draw a simple shape straight forward slice of a pie. This is the part where I will lose my confidence because this is going nowhere.
But, when I added the base colors focusing on autumn and earthy colors I think I may have a good direction. Notice the top part of the pie is no longer simple but became curly and wavy as if this part is now becoming flowy hairstyle. I love it and went on to add more curling lines down to the chin and wherever I see necessary. I want to stick with the brown colors for the arms and legs to suggest that burnt part of the pie. I could have used another color since this pie character looks like has clothes on but that would not work in my opinion. The only one thing I that I am second guessing myself on is the pair of eyes. They look droopy not happy, the brows maybe could take more width and the lashes are looking too much. Close the lower lid to remove that space and give it a jolly eyes instead of tired and droopy. What do you guys suggest? Oh and I am using that old version of Sony Sketch here which I really miss and love using.
