Huasao Wetlands: Magic and Nature / Humedales de Huasao: Magia y Naturaleza [Eng-Esp]

Hello dear Black and White community,

This time I bring you to the Huasao Wetlands, located in the district of Oropesa, just 50 minutes away from the beautiful city of Cusco. You just grab your backpack, walk to Avenida La Cultura, and from there take a bus that drops you right at the entrance. After a short walk, you arrive at the wetlands.

When I got there, I was amazed by the creativity of the locals: sculptures carved into the hillsides representing characters like Groot, figures from The Lord of the Rings, a mermaid, and many others I couldn’t recognize. The whole place is surrounded by lush vegetation, life, and a beautiful lagoon that gives the site a magical atmosphere.

The Huasao Wetlands are still little known among tourists. I went because a friend wanted to have a coca leaf reading, since this town is also known for its shamans and healers. But what truly impressed me was the art and creativity of the local people reflected in this natural setting.

It’s definitely a place I recommend visiting if you’re ever in Cusco. Here I share some photos where you can see the water reflections, the nature, and the magic of this special place.

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro

• En esta ocasión los traigo a los Humedales de Huasao, ubicados en el distrito de Oropesa, a tan solo 50 minutos de la hermosa ciudad del Cusco. Basta con tomar tu mochila, caminar hasta la avenida La Cultura y desde allí abordar un bus que te deja en la entrada. Luego de un pequeño recorrido a pie, llegas directamente al humedal.*

Al llegar quedé sorprendido por el ingenio de los pobladores: esculturas talladas en la misma ladera del lugar que representan personajes como Groot, figuras del Señor de los Anillos, una sirena y muchos más que no reconocí en ese momento. Todo está rodeado de vegetación, vida y una hermosa laguna que le da un aire mágico al sitio.

Los Humedales de Huasao son aún poco conocidos por turistas. Yo fui porque una amiga quería leer la coca, pues este pueblo también es reconocido por sus chamanes y curanderos. Pero lo que realmente me impresionó fue el arte y la creatividad de la gente local reflejada en este espacio natural.

Un lugar que recomiendo visitar si alguna vez están en Cusco. Les comparto algunas fotos donde podrán ver los reflejos del agua, la naturaleza y la magia de este rincón especial.
