Alexey Demidov How I Reflected On My Well-Being Just two days, I was flipping through Instagram when I encountered a GoFundMe post on behalf of a woman who is battling breast cancer. That post took me down memory lane of how we lost two beautiful women in my local church to this monster called breast cancer. I went in search of my memories with them on their birthdays and other events.

Afterward, I went back to the page to support the GoFundMe page and drop a few words of encouragement. I also had a deep reflection on how to live healthier than I am presently.

Mental Health: only around half of people describe their mental health as good, unable to switch off from work, etc. How do you cope in an ever-changing world?

On the issue of mental health, coping in an ever-changing world has become almost impossible with the demanding nature of our work, especially in the state where I reside.

A typical Life of a Lagosian employee Some individuals wake up as early as 4 am (West African Time), some much earlier, to get to their places of work early. They spend 4 to 5 hours on traffic, especially those going to the Island from the mainland. Arriving to the office around 8 am or 9 am, spending between 8 to 9 hours at work, and getting home around 9 pm because of traffic.

I spend like 4hours every day in traffic. From every indication, this person does not have enough sleep, is sapped and stressed in traffic, and exhausted from the day's office activities. From this simple narration, this person's mental health might not be balanced. Anxiety, frustration, and low energy would have reduced the mental health of the individual.

Marcel Strauß Most times, after the stress at work, we come back home to take care of some house chores, cook for the family, and blog. I mean serious blogging. Some will still browse social media before settling for the night. To worsen the situation, some individuals still sell their annual leave instead of taking time off to unwind, recharge, and engage in deep reflection and rest.

To change the narrative, we need to make resting a habit and set boundaries that will support our work-life balance to maintain good mental health.

Furthermore, engaging in a 25-minute daily walk and refraining from intense social media browsing will assist our mental health. Some individuals get depressed after watching and assimilating the fake lives of their counterparts in social media posts.

Lastly, our mental health could be put in balance when we share our low moments with our close ones. Remember, a problem shared is half solved. Again, daily reflection is a good way to relieve our burdens and restart our buttons for a new day before sleep.

This way, we will be able to cope in the ever-changing world by being that change ourselves through living a balanced life that sets boundaries between the ever-busy world and personal life.
