"The Obelisk Gate" the second book in the Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. It is a hybrid between scifi and fantasy because there are elements of magic as well as scientific ideas about climates.
I made a review on the first book "The Fifth Season" about a year ago so. To refresh our memories let me remind you what this series is about.
The Fifth Season takes place on a planet with a single supercontinent called the Stillness. Every few centuries, its inhabitants endure what they call a "Fifth Season" of catastrophic climate change.

Eseen, our main character, is one of the few people on Earth with some ability to control the planet's movements. Still, this fifth season has far surprased her cspabilities ... or has it?
The second book has been just as intense as the first book. There is a lot going on in this story. The world is pretty much destroying humanity and there is only so much Essun can do about it.
Like so many other scifi books there are a lot of terms and locations to remember. Luckily there is a glossary in the back of the book that can be flipped to at any moment. It is so nice to have a physical copy because I have heard that this book doesn't work well as an audio.
In general I am so happy that I actually own this whole series. I am feeling so lucky to be reunited with my childhood bookshelf. On these shelves I have books I have yet to read alongside some of my all time favorites. Like "Adulthood Rites" by Octavia Butler (which I loved so much) and Powerless & Reckless (which I haven't even opened yet).
I only have a week longer at my childhood home so I will enjoy my books to the fullest these next few days. Maybe I will have another book review to share with you all before my travels continue.
