I am enjoying my last day of vacation to the fullest. Resting, organizing, drinking in the sunshine. Tomorrow I will be on planes & trains. Today I am rooting myself in nostalgia.
So, what exactly is nostalgia? It is different for everyone. According to the Brave search engine results, the definition of nostalgia is "A bittersweet yearning for the things of the past". And that is a definition I really agree with.
I would definitely say that as a chronically online 30-something I have a strong desire to jump into a time machine and go back to before we had the internet, when we all read physical books and made everything ourselves.
And then I remember that the past wasn't all rainbows and sunshine. Working with your hands all day is hard work. Human rights were still being fought for. In short, there are a LOT of reasons to be grateful for this day and age, even if we are all a bit too dependent on digital technology.
So, I admire this handmade, one-of-a-kind quilt that I inherited from my grandparents. And so I make zines by hand, full of spelling errors and grammatical nonsense. It is my way of bridging the past & present.
