Day-to-day as a Natural Builder

We are building our dream home. With natural materials like wood, earth, and straw. Every day we spend a few hours at the build.

Today in particularly I am really feeling the effects of a month working pretty much every day. Even after 8 hours of sleep, I still feel like laying in bed a bit more. So instead of spending the morning at the build, I want to share a summary of our house building process.

This phase of the project is all about plaster. I mix plaster every day. Sometimes my friend spends the mornings helping us. And in the afternoons both Jona and I apply the plaster to the wall.

More about plastering in this video. You can skip to 2 minutes and 19 seconds for the segment about plastering:

Mixing the plaster can be fun. Especially if the day is sunny and warm. On cloudy, dark days, it can be hard to motivate myself to step into the cold clay.

Luckily the sun came out yesterday I felt a strong motivation to connect with the earthly elements. For our plaster recipe we use sand, clay, horse manure, straw, and fermented prickly pear juice. These are all natural materials that we find locally, some bought and others collected.

I need to continue on with my homesteading chores. More moments and memories made behind the scenes of a Natural Build coming in a future blog post <3
