We are writers. We can't help but document our experiences. Online, offline. A writer will find their way to share. I personally have been blogging and making zines since I was 19. And while blogging has exploded, zine making has declined.
I still make about one zine per year. And so, it seems, does someone along my walk.
At the moment I am staying with friends in Northern California and taking frequent strolls around the neighborhood. Today I walked by a little zine stand. Tiny boxes had been attached to a light post. In each box there were small zines.
Naturally I picked one up and read through it's continents throughout the walk to and from the grocery store.
This is a perzine ~ a personal zine, written about someone's life experiences. In this case about the writer's ancestry, and memories passed down from his grandparents. All the zines had elements of social justice as far as I could see. Next time I walk by that mobile zine shop I would like to read a few more. And maybe even drop off a few of my own handmade publications!
