Today I just rewatched what was my favorite series of my adolescence, and which over the years has become iconic, I'm talking about Candy. This story is about a girl who was abandoned in front of the doors of an orphanage on a cloudy night while it was snowing, so Miss Ponny and Sister Maria (running the orphanage) decided to name her Candy White. That same day they also abandoned another girl, Annie, and both girls grew up loving each other like sisters until one day a couple adopted Annie and Candy was left sad in the orphanage. Later, she agrees to be adopted by a family just to be near Annie, but this family only wants to have her as a servant in their house. On her way to adulthood, Candy experiences many adventures and valuable lessons, but also difficult moments. >Hoy acabo de ver nuevamente lo que fue mi serie favorita de mi adolescencia, y que a lo largo de los años se ha vuelto un ícono, me refiero a Candy. Esta historia trata de una niña que fue abandonada frente a las puertas de un orfanato en una noche nublada mientras nevaba, así que la señorita Ponny y la hermana María (regentes del orfanato) decidieron llamarla Candy White. Ese mismo día también abandonaron a otra niña, Annie, y ambas niñas crecieron queriéndose como hermanas hasta que en una ocasión una pareja adoptó a Annie y Candy se quedó triste en el orfanato, más tarde acepta ser aptada por una familia solo por estar cerca de Annie, pero esta familia solo quiere tenerla como sirvienta en su casa. En su camino hacia la adultez Candy vive muchas aventuras y aprendizajes valiosos, pero también momentos difíciles.

Every time I have the chance I rewatch this anime because it reminds me so much of my youth, it was full of tenderness and innocence, but at the same time it was also a reflection of the harsh reality of orphans (among other things) some of them were only adopted to serve as a workforce and they were treated with great contempt, in addition there was a lot of prejudice against orphans, just because they didn't have parents they were already considered thieves or undesirable people. >Cada vez que yo tengo la oportunidad vuelvo a ver este anime porque me recuerda muchísimo mi juventud, estaba lleno de ternura e inocencia, pero a la vez también era un reflejo de la cruda realidad de los huérfanos (entre otras cosas) algunos de ellos solo eran adoptados para servir como fuerza de trabajo y los trataban con mucho desprecio, además había muchísimo prejuicio contra los huérfanos, solo por el hecho de no tener padres ya los consideraban como ladrones o personas indeseables.
It's true that the anime was very cheesy, it had very cloying scenes and dialogues but I suppose that was something very typical of the time, it also happened with the so-called romance novels, it's part of a genre, but in general terms it was a very entertaining anime, with an interesting and dynamic theme that mixes romance with comedy and action, in the same way it also touches on serious and real themes like war.
Es verdad que el anime era muy cursi, tenía escenas y diálogos muy empalagosos pero supongo que era algo muy propio de la época, sucedía también con las llamadas novelas rosas, es parte de un género, pero en términos generales era un anime muy entretenido, con una temática interesante y dinámica que mezcla el romance con la comedia y la acción, de la misma manera también toca temas serios y reales como la guerra.
There is a lot of diversity when it comes to the characters because each one is different from the other and each one contributes something to the plot, for example I remember Flamie Hamilton (Candy's roommate) in nursing school, this girl was extremely different from Candy, her personality was sober and she almost never smiled, she almost never took her nose out of her books and she hated Candy's candor and spontaneity, but the director of the nursing school said that the mixture of both would result in the perfect nurse. In addition, the series was a criticism of snobbery and the way millionaire families handled everything based on hierarchies. The Andry family, for example (the one that adopted Candy) was very elitist and managed the lives of others as they pleased, but fortunately the great-uncle was the exception to the rule, a different being in every way.
Hay mucha diversidad en lo que refiere a los personajes porque cada uno es diferente al otro y cada quien aporta algo a la trama, por ejemplo recuerdo a Flamie Hamilton (la compañera de habitación de Candy) en la escuela de enfermería, esta chica era extremadamente diferente a Candy, su personalidad era sobria y casi nunca sonreía, casi nunca sacaba la nariz de los libros y detestaba la candidez y espontaneidad de Candy, pero la directora de la escuela de enfermería decía que la mezcla de ambas resultaría en la enfermera perfecta. Además la serie era una critica al esnobismo y la forma en la que las familias millonarias manejaban todo en base a jerarquías. La familia Andry por ejemplo (la que adoptó a Candy) era muy elitista y manejaba la vida de los demás a su antojo pero afortunadamente el tío abuelo era la excepción a la regla, un ser diferente en todos los sentidos.
Albert was my favorite character because he brought freshness to the plot, I loved his spontaneity and love for nature, he was a carefree young man who hated conventions and formality, but besides him I also liked Stear because despite being a member of the Andry family he didn't behave like one, he was funny and cheerful, he was always working on some invention that usually ended up exploding, and that made me laugh my head off.
Albert era mi personaje favorito porque le aportaba frescura a la trama, su espontaneidad y amor por la naturaleza me encantaban, era un joven despreocupado que detestaba los convencionalismos y la formalidad, pero además de él también me gustaba Stear porque a pesar de ser un miembro de la familia Andry no se comportaba como tal, era gracioso y alegre, siempre estaba trabajando en algún invento que por lo general terminaba explotando, y eso hacía que yo me desternillara de risa.
