Today I'd like to share with you what our family Saturday was like, enjoying my brother-in-law's 70th birthday celebration. Even though his wife, my sister, died during the COVID-19 pandemic, he remains a very special person to the entire family, and I love him like a brother. It was a special occasion because it was his seventh birthday, so he wanted to celebrate it in a plains-style celebration because that's a concept he really likes. Despite not being a country man, since he was a child he loved everything related to the plains, and that certainly includes music. >Hoy quisiera compartir con ustedes lo que fue nuestro sábado en familia disfrutando de la celebración del cumpleaños número 70 de mi cuñado, porque a pesar de que su esposa, osea mi hermana, murió durante la pandemia de Covid 19, él sigue siendo alguien muy especial para toda la familia, y lo quiero como si fuese mi hermano. Fue una ocasión especial porque se trataba de su séptimo cumpleaños, así que él lo quiso celebrar al estilo del llano porque ese es un concepto que le gusta mucho. A pesar de no ser un hombre de campo, desde que era muy niño le gustaba todo lo que tuviera que ver con el llano, y eso desde luego incluye la música.
His daughters (my nieces) prepared this lovely party for him, and since they own a bakery, of course, they made him this delicious and beautiful cake. I loved it because it had a movie theme, as if it were a film titled "70 Years of My Life." As decoration, they added many photographs that tell my brother-in-law's story. I even felt nostalgic seeing my sister in most of those beautiful photos.
Sus hijas (mis sobrinas) le prepararon esta linda fiesta, y como tienen una pastelería, por supuesto le prepararon este delicioso y bellísimo pastel. Me gustó mucho porque tiene una temática de cine, como si fuese una película titulada "Los 70 años de mi vida" y como decoración ellas le añadieron muchas fotografías que cuentan la historia de mi cuñado, incluso me llené de nostalgia al ver a mi hermana en la mayoría de esas fotos tan hermosas.
Another of my nephews brought his musical group, which specializes in music from the plains and the Andes, and they got everyone dancing. No one could resist the rhythm, so we moved to the beat of the violin and then the harp. It's beautiful to value and appreciate the music of our own country, in my case Venezuela; it allows us to identify with our own ethos.
Otro de mis sobrinos llevó su grupo musical que se especializa en música del llano y los andes, y con ella pusieron a bailar a todo el mundo, nadie podía resistirse al ritmo de la música, así que nos dedicamos a movernos al ritmo del violín y luego del arpa. Es hermoso valorar y apreciar la música de nuestro propio país, en mi caso Venezuela, nos permite sentirnos identificados con nuestra idiosincrasia.
And some of those present, like my niece and another of my nephews (the grandson of the honoree), dedicated some beautiful songs from the llanero repertoire to him 🤗. It's a shame there's no option to upload the videos in this format 😭 because I'd love to share them with you.
Y algunos de los presentes como mi sobrina y otro de mis sobrinos (nieto del agasajado) le dedicaron algunas canciones preciosas del repertorio llanero 🤗. Es una lástima que no exista la opción de subir los videos en este formato 😭 porque me gustaría compartirlos con ustedes.
Despite all the pain my family and I have endured following the loss of my sister during the pandemic, despite the huge void she left in her own home and the fact that her presence is sorely missed at these kinds of gatherings, I am happy to see the family together again to celebrate life. After all, my sister was a very joyful woman and loved celebrating every special and unforgettable moment. That's why I know she rests in peace, and that is the greatest consolation. These kinds of gatherings bring us closer together as a family. They remind us to be there for each other through the bad times, to hug and support each other through the pain, but also through the good times, to celebrate every special moment and every achievement.
A pesar de todo el dolor que hemos pasado con mi familia a raíz de la pérdida de mi hermana en los tiempos de la pandemia, a pesar del vacío tan grande que ella dejó en su propia casa y que su presencia se extraña muchísimo en este tipo de reuniones, me alegra ver de nuevo a la familia reunida para celebrar la vida, después de todo mi hermana era una mujer muy alegre y amaba celebrar cada momento especial e inolvidable, por eso sé que ella descansa en paz y ese es el mejor consuelo. Este tipo de reuniones nos une más como familia, nos recuerda que debemos estar juntos en la malas, para abrazarnos y sostenernos en el dolor, pero también en los buenos tiempos, para celebrar cada momento especial y cada logro.
