Hello friends, it's been a while since I've shared something with you on this wonderful community, but I'm very happy to be back. Last month, for my birthday, I received a wonderful gift from my family: a homemade sewing machine 😃. I have several projects planned for it. The first one is very simple: it involves making some inserts for the cushions in my living room. >Hola amigos, hace mucho tiempo que no comparto con ustedes algo en esta preciosa comunidad, pero estoy muy feliz de incorporarme, ya que el mes pasado, durante mi cumpleaños recibí un regalo maravilloso de parte de mi familia, una máquina de coser casera 😃, con la cuál tengo previsto varios proyectos. El primero de ellos es muy sencillo, se trata de elaborar unos foros para los cojines de mi sala.
To do this, I didn't overcomplicate things, so I used the old worn upholstery fabrics as a pattern for the new ones I was going to make. I placed them on top of the new upholstery fabric, drew the silhouette, and cut them out. For some, like the upholstery of the large sofa cushion, I cut them out directly, without drawing.
Para ello no compliqué demasiado el asunto, así que utilicé los antiguos forros desgastados como patrón para los nuevos que voy a realizar, los puse encima de la tela nueva de tapicería, dibujé la silueta y recorté, en algunos como el forro del cojín grande del sofá recorté directamente, sin dibujar.

From here, the construction was really easy. First, I made the ruffles, which involves cutting strips the same length as the front of the linings, about 7 centimeters wide. I sewed the edge or hem on the sewing machine to prevent fraying and also to give it a better finish.
A partir de aquí la elaboración fue realmente fácil, en primer lugar hice los faralaos, que se trata de recortar tiras del mismo largo de la parte frontal de los forros de unos 7 centímetros de ancho aproximadamente. Cosí el borde o ruedo en la maquina para evitar que se deshilache y además para darle un mejor acabado.
Next, it was a matter of placing the fabric underneath the lining, then the strip that will be the ruffle, then the top part of the lining on top, and sewing on the sewing machine to join the pieces. To make the operation easier, I basted the ruffle strip first. "Basting" means to baste or make long seams, so this way I lightly hand-stitched the ruffle to one of the top or bottom pieces of the lining, giving it a decorative gather. This is something you can also do directly on the sewing machine, but doing it by hand beforehand will make the process much easier because it will prevent the pieces from moving while you sew it on the machine.
Luego fue cuestión de poner la tela de abajo del forro, luego la tira que será el faralao, luego encima la parte superior del forro y coser en la máquina para unir las piezas. Para que la operación fuese más sencilla yo procedí a bastear la tira del faralao primero, "bastear" significa hilvanar o hacer costuras largas, así que de esta forma cosí ligeramente a mano el faralao a una de las piezas superior o inferior del forro) dándole un fruncido decorativo. Es algo que también puedes hacer directamente en la máquina de coser pero hacerlo previamente a mano facilitará mucho el proceso porque evitarás que las piezas se muevan mientras la coses en la máquina.

After all the above, I only had to sew the zipper, for which I installed the special zipper foot on my machine and proceeded to sew it (this foot makes your life much easier when sewing zippers).
Después de todo lo anterior solo me restó coser la cremallera para lo cual instalé en mi máquina el prénsatelas especial para cierres y procedí a coserlo (este prénsatela te simplifica mucho la vida a la hora de coser las cremalleras).

And finally I put the cushions in the new covers and this was the result.
