I have been tending my mom's garden for several months and watering an unknown cactus. A week ago I discovered that it had a flower bud. This bud grew and grew without opening, I had never seen a flower with such a big bud and even less in a cactus, I watched it day after day, watered it and took care of it.
Until yesterday morning, when I didn't go to water it because the previous afternoon it had rained and it was not necessary to water the plants because otherwise they would drown. My mother told me: “it will open today for sure”, and at noon I decided to go to see it and I could not believe it, it was true. A strange flower had been born: hairy, with colors never seen before in a flower, colors more dead than alive and it emitted a strange smell.
That aroused my curiosity and I took thousands of pictures of it (here are the best ones). And at night I started to investigate about it, it turns out that it is a Stapelia gigantea, and it is not a cactus, but a succulent, also called carrion flower, starfish flower or lizard flower. They compare it to rotten meat because of its color and smell.
Every day you learn something new and interesting and in this world of photography even more. I hope you like as much as I do this discovery I made.

Llevo varios meses cuidando el jardín de mi mamá y regando un cactus desconocido. Hace una semana descubrí que le había nacido un capullo de flor. Este capullo crecía y crecía sin abrir, nunca había visto una flor con un capullo tan grande y menos en un cactus, lo velaba día tras día, lo regaba y lo cuidaba.
Hasta ayer en la mañana, que no fui a regarlo porque la tarde anterior había llovido y no era necesario regar más las platas porque si no se ahogaban. Mi mamá me dijo: "seguro que hoy se abre", y a la hora del mediodía decidí ir a verlo y no lo podía creer, era cierto. Había nacido una flor extraña: peluda, con colores nunca antes vistos en una flor, colores más muertos que vivos y emitía un olor raro.
Eso despertó mi curiosidad y le tiré miles de fotografías (aquí les dejé las mejores). Y en la noche me puse a investigar sobre ella, resulta ser que es una Stapelia gigantea, y no es un cactus, sino una suculenta, llamada también flor de carroña, flor de estrella de mar o flor de lagarto. La comparan con la carne podrida por su color y olor.
Todos los días se aprende algo nuevo e interesante y en este mundo de la fotografía más. Espero que les guste tanto como a mí este descubrimiento que hice.
