Hello again everyone!

As I promised I will continue with more photos from Koh Yao Yai.

As I mentioned in my last post Koh Yao Yai or 'Big Long Island' is located in the Andaman Sea, halfway between Phuket and Krabi. It is a real paradise with its beautiful beach, coconut trees, amazing sunset and clean warm sea.

With the island being one of the last untouched islands and one of the the last parts hasn't been overrun by the tourists, being in Koh Yao Yai was the closest I can ever experience to what I imagine the real Thailand was like back in the past.

Mostly conservative local Muslim Thais keep with a more traditional way of life, hence Yao Yai’s slow change. The island is now home to many resorts but it is still possible to see mostly handcrafted wooden houses surrounded by tropical plants and animals tied right next to the house.

We got to the island by the speed boat provided by the hotel, directly to hotel's pier. But there are speed boats from Phuket to Klong Hia Pier of Koh Yao Yai, it takes only 25 minutes.

The tranquility of this island felt like we were worlds away from all the crazyness of Phuket, party beaches, luxurious resorts and sufficating crowd. It was almost impossible to think they were all only half an hour away.

There’s not all that much to do on this island, just as we desired after a very tiring year, we appreciated the serenity of the island. Local beers by the sunset, beach exploring and sitting by the pool was more than enough for us.

Along the beach there were many small restaurants and cafes. They all were closed probably because we got there on the wet season and I'm assuming they only work on the high season. But their wood chairs, swings and small bridges were all waiting us to enjoy.

If you are not looking for a lot to do and just want to enjoy beautiful views, beaches and stay away from the touristy crowd, you might enjoy the tranquility of this beautiful island for 2-3 days.

Hope you enjoyed. See you on my next post. More Thailand posts to follow.
