It is worth noting that the use of technology has increased in our country Venezuela and worldwide, thanks to the advancement of technology, we all have an electronic device in our homes to communicate and also to work we have a computer, in which we carry out our activities, such as checking the balance of our bank accounts, making payments to other people and to different companies for some purchases.
Likewise, malicious individuals use phishing to take over your phone or computer, posing as a relative, offering to sell you dollars. They then request payment. Once you pay, they fail to deliver the cash, effectively committing fraud. These types of cases have multiplied, which is why Venezuela created the Special Law Against Computer Crimes in 2001, with the aim of punishing all those found to be committing this type of cybercrime.
On the other hand, there is also what is known as cyberbullying, where an adult or even a minor humiliates another person through writing, images, or audiovisual content on social media. This is also punishable, and if it affects a minor, the crime is even more serious. In addition, links that appear to be access to a banking site are sent, where the user enters their information, only to be stolen, and they subsequently lose all their money. These are some of the crimes listed in this law.
Under this law, individuals who commit these types of crimes and are found guilty electronically can be arrested by the relevant authorities and sentenced to prison for one to eight years, depending on the severity of the crime committed.
Finally, I think that Venezuela is very advanced in terms of this type of laws that punish people who are exposed on social networks, such as children who surf the web and are in constant danger from people who want to harm them, that is why it is important. It would be interesting if this law protected cryptocurrencies or digital assets that a person has on a blockchain, but for this to happen, the person must disclose the amount they own in this type of assets.
I hope you liked it, see you in a next post.
