In November, I tracked the Hoquiam, Wash., tugboats out to the Grays Harbor Public Viewpoint Tower. I saw the tugboats bringing a vessel into the Port of Grays Harbor while taking my morning walk, rushed home to get my camera, then walked two miles out to the tower to get some shots of them heading back home to Hoquiam to dock on the river.

One of the cool things about the viewpoint tower is how close you can get to the seafaring vessels at the port's loading dock. The first photo of this series shows the view from the foot of the tower. I would head out there more often for photos, but, like I said, it's a two mile walk to get there. Poor excuse, I know.

The tugs made some big waves going by. The fisherman at the end of the dock was hanging on for dear life with those waves.

At the end of my shoot, a rainbow appeared briefly, drawing my attention, but that was after both boats had already passed.
