(DIY) Sewing a Last Minute Football Top

Greetings, #Needlework community!

It's another beautiful day to share our creative designs, learn from each other, and connect with like-minded needleworker.

Today, I’m sharing one of the easiest garments you can make, a simple, sleeveless top. I made this one for my younger brother. He needed it for a football competition happening in just a few hours!

We quickly realized that buying a new one from the market would be much more expensive than sewing one ourselves. He bought one trouser yard (45 inches) of fabric, which was more than enough. In fact, that amount of material is enough to sew two of these tops, making it a very cost-effective project. The cutting process is very straightforward, which is perfect when you're short on time.

Here i have cut both the front and the back bodice

As an intermediate sewist, it took me less than an hour from start to finish

I make the neck width 3.5inches by 3.5inches for the front and 3.5inches by 1.5inches for the back with armhole length of 9inches and divided his chest by 4 to get the chest measurement. I added 1inch to the length for heming allowance.

With right sides facing each other, have gone ahead to join it by the shoulder

I used the same fabric for a consistent look. Attach the band around the neck and then repeat the process for both armholes.

With the garment inside out, I joined the fabric along both side seams, fold up the bottom edge by 1 inch and hem it to create a clean, finished look.

And here is the finished look! It came out just as I envisioned, and my brother really likes it. It's a perfect, quick project for a last-minute need.
