My aunt got this for me. I was, in my past life (from 3rd grade up through university) a saxophone player. I was a music ed major in college, but I don't do anything related to music now other than sing karaoke. Besides that little vid of me playing my son's sax I made on hive a bit of time ago.. It's been decades since I played at all.I guess my aunt wants to see me fill my time with more than just sitting in front of my desktop or laptop. :P
This is some French brand that I'm not familiar with. or I should say the body of the sax (the metal parts) are of that French company, but the mouthpiece is from Yamaha. Now that brand I know. I even learned to play sax on a yamaha student model that I played until my dad got me a pro model sax (a Selmer) during my junior year of high school.
The extra mouthpiece I found looks to be the original one.. from that same French company. I really should give it a try and see which one I like better. There's just something about saxophones and France. I guess it's like Germany and cars?? :P
The sax came with 2 reeds. One is from the company Rico, which is a goof maker of reeds, but I would say they are more for concert band or marching bank.. maybe jazz band as well. The brand I like, Vandoren, comes from France too, I believe, and has a more warm, earthy sound. I much prefer them over the Rico reeds. My aunt said the guy she got the sax from has lots of reeds.. from 1 to 5 and I'm guessing all different brands too. I told her to ask him for vandoren 2.5 or 3, which is what I was using when I played back in my school days.
It came with this old, cheap leather neck strap. I will get a nicer more modern style neck strap on amazon. I like the more padded one. :)
Alrighty.. I gotta go practice now. Maybe I will make another post and play u all a song or two.
