Good evening, Hive! Lately, I've been feeling trapped with work and then coming home to sit at the computer. So, I decided to do something spontaneous: I hopped on a bus at my local station and headed to the beach, just a short 40-minute ride away. The destination? Great Yarmouth, a seaside town known for its mix of good and bad. But for me, I always look past the negatives and simply appreciate the charm of this coastal town. Sure i prefer other spots on the Norfolk coastline but with Great Yarmouth being the quickest and easiest to get to via bus and how often they run it, it seemed like a no-brainer.
I arrived in Great Yarmouth just after 3 PM. Since the trip was somewhat unplanned, I might have chosen a different destination with better planning. That said, I made the most of the 4-5 hours I spent there, enjoying a pleasant walk along the beach, strolling across the golden sands.
I arrived at the beach and noticed the tide was low. Checking my tide app, I realized it was at its lowest point and wouldn't reach high tide until midnight. This made for a pleasant walk along a wide, expansive beach. Unlike nearby Hemsby or further up the coast in Cromer, you don't have to worry much about tides or coastal erosion here.
After a good walk and a lot of steps, I headed back into town for some fish and chips, something you cannot skip when visiting a seaside town.
After enjoying my fish and chips, I explored more of the rundown town center. Though it looked a bit bleak, it still offered a nice variety of shops. Once everything closed, there wasn’t much left to do. I considered walking along the beach again, catching an early bus home, or trying some geocaching. In the end, I did none of those and opted for a pint at the local Wetherspoons. Looking back, I maybe should have gone to A historic coastal pub, but being unfamiliar with the area, I opted for A wetherspoons, as you can't really go wrong there and you save a little too.
I settled with A Carlsberg before finally grabbing a bus home.
This will conclude today's post. Thank you for reading.
