Meet Cious
Hello Hive Community,
I am Alioha Precious Uchenna, a 400-level nursing student at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. I am 21 years old, full of drive, and with a strong sense of determination.
My academic journey has been defined by resilience, hard work, and self determination. I have always nurtured a passion for growth not just academically, but in every aspect of life.
I am the second child in a typical African family of seven, where we were raised with what I like to call “hard love.” You know, discipline, values, and lessons that sometimes felt tough but shaped us into strong and focused individuals. In my family, giving up was never an option, and that mindset has kept me going and making me persistence through challenges and setbacks.
This same energy continues to inspire me, pushing me to set higher goals and pursue them with courage and consistency.
Hobbies are often a reflection of one’s personality, values, and hidden passions. For me, they go beyond mere leisure activities, they are expressions of my identity, creativity, and aspirations. My hobbies have not only given me joy but have also shaped my outlook on life and the person I am becoming.
One of my strongest passions is cooking. I love to experiment with new recipes, cater for people. Cooking is more than just a hobby for me, it is a dream I have nurtured for years.
After completing secondary school, I wanted to pursue a professional career as a certified chef. Circumstances beyond my control prevented me from following this path immediately, but my desire has remained alive. Cooking allows me to express my creativity, patience, love for others and it gives me a sense of fulfillment. Although I am currently pursuing a degree in nursing, I still envision a future where I can merge both professions caring for people’s health while also nourishing their bodies through healthy, well-prepared meals.
Another hobby that defines me is dancing. As a proud Igbo girl, dancing connects me deeply to my culture and heritage. It is not only about moving the body to the rhythm, it is about expressing courage, confidence, and fierceness. Each step reminds me of the beauty of my roots and the strength of my identity. Dancing also provides an outlet to relieve stress, remain active, and communicate emotions without words. It is an art that reminds me of the joy of life and the importance of embracing who I am.
In addition, I have a strong passion for reading inspirational and life-impacting texts. Books by writers such as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Ben Carson have particularly shaped my perspective on resilience, courage, and the pursuit of dreams. Reading offers me motivation, mental stimulation, and fresh ideas that enrich my journey as a student and as a young woman finding her place in the world. It has become a habit I cherish, as it sharpens my mind and encourages me to believe that no dream is too big to achieve.
Altogether, these hobbies cooking, dancing, and reading reflect my adventurous spirit and love for self-expression. They remind me that life is not only about responsibilities but also about pursuing passions that make us unique and fulfilled.
You’re probably wondering how I got into this space right? Well, I mentioned earlier that I love to explore and embrace new opportunities.
I remember sitting next to @Wongi in a classroom. I've noticed her scroll through her phone a couple of times, I didn't bother to ask. I was curious about what she was doing, but I hesitated to ask. I thought she might find it strange or think I was interfering in her business. Maybe she even wanted me to, but who knows?
Eventually, I gathered the courage and asked. She exclaimed, Hmmm!!!! and said a few words. Honestly, I didn’t even understand what she said, but I just nodded and pretended like I did. Of course, I could tell she didn’t take me seriously at that point.
Weeks went by, and I finally went back to her, determined this time to really know what this was all about. I asked her to explain again. At this point the look on her face delivered the ‘are you serious’ question. She did explain more clearly this time. And then, here I am.
I’m truly grateful to @Wongi for giving me this opportunity to be here and explore my full potential. To the Hiveans, your unity and growth has encouraged me to take this bold step towards making an impact, this space already feels like the perfect ground to learn, grow, and connect with amazing people.
I look forward to contributing meaningfully to this space, embracing opportunities for growth, making a lasting impact in my community and beyond, building new friendships, gaining fresh experiences, and making the most of every chance that comes my way.Let's see what happens if we don't give up. Here's to growth, possibilities, and the exciting path ahead.
