So, it's always been a joke on the internet that Cat dads - who pretend to not like them or be indifferent or practical about adoption, end up getting the most love from our kitties. Lexi is a prime example. She can be sleeping peacefully with me in the afternoons, but as soon as she hears @zakludck's voice and he enters the room, she totally abandons me, like I'm chopped liver (aren't they supposed to love chopped liver?) and is all over Zak 🀣 I try to not take it personally as cats are notorious assholes, especially Lexi who even has "resting bitch face!" And she gets away with it all because in my opinion, she is the most beautiful cat in the world!

Squeek, who cannot meow properly - it's more of like a "dinosaur whisper roar"- has always been a very gentle and skittish cat. She picks one person and one safe zone in the house. She reacts like lightening speed whenever one of us moves, often abandoning her food bowl! She seems to have found a comfort spot where she lets anyone pet her, and I was so pleasantly surprised when she meowed for attention and came for scratches an cuddles! Usually, @aimeludick is her person, but she's definitely warmed up in the time we've had together since we adopted her from my mom.

We were vey worried when we moved them, and Lexi did go missing for almost a month, which was horrible and we were all worried sick (thank God she was returned safely to us), as they were so used to my mom's place where Matthew and I stayed for almost ears after my separation and divorce from my ex. along with Lexi who is actually Matthew's cat, three whole years ago! Gosh but time flies!

It's hard to believe Lexi is almost 6 years old and Squeek is heading for 10 years! They both still look like kittens. They are both naturally tiny cats, but with such unique characters.

Kind if like Mary Poppins, cats enter and leave our lives when we need them and exit when their time is done.

That's not to say that outside influences can't mess with that. I mean, Losing Chai and Mittens was terrible. We lost them both at exactly the same age, 1 year old and in exactly the same way (hit by speeding vehicles).

Cally, was next and lovely. She was extremely affectionate but played rough and we all got scratched quite hectically. I was worried eventually one of the cats may end up with an abscess like Squeek had after mittens scratched her while playfighting. Cally was rescued from under a car and came to me covered in car grease and had terrible sunburn - since although she was a Calico cat, her ears and most of her body was white and white cats are very susceptible to sunburn and skin cancer. No one else wanted to take her on. I went down this road with my 1st cat ever, Snowey, as a child and it was terrible to watch her deteriorate. I was terrified poor Cally would be destined for the same fate. She was still so young when she arrived, maybe 4 or 5 months old, but she had obviously been surviving on the streets for some time. She was definitely domesticated as she knew exactly what the litter box was for, so her original owners must have dumped her, or just not noticed when she disappeared. I nursed her back to health and once she could trust us 100%, I decided to introduce her to the other cats, which was a total disaster. She had obviously had to learn to fend and fight for herself while she was on the street for survival's sake, but that instinct didn't wear off no matter how many times or methods we tried. She unfortunately became increasingly violent towards Squeek and Lexi, which meant that after all that care, including taking her to be microchipped, sterilized and vaccinated, I had to make the very difficult decision of giving her back. Look, it was a "foster-to-adopt" situation, but I still felt terrible loading her into the carrier and watching them take her away. After all, I had fallen in love with her :( The rescue organization that originally found her were so kind an understanding. She also left looing a million times better than she did when she arrived. Well fed and a lovely coat of fur, with all the sunburn effectively treated. She spent two weeks in a cattery and was adopted as an only cat and found her furever home, which meant she definitely ended up being very happy, and I am glad to have played a role in that.

Marmite from next door has decided that our home is his home too, much to our girl kitty's discontent! but he is really doff. Male cats really do seem to be a but psychologically inferior to their female counterparts, but they make up for it and love and loyalty. This dumb ass cat will literally sit in the driveway or my parking spot and will not move no matter how much I rev my car or yell at him. He seems to have zero survival skills and is only interested in scratches, cuddles and stealing the girl's food when they're not looking!

Lets see how the next few months play out. Perhaps we will be blessed with another kitty <3 I feel like need a kitten in my life!1
