I took a photo of a friend playing the keyboard outside. I liked the photo (in B&W the best) but didn't like the kids play tent that was part of the picture. Tried various ways to minimize or remove this unwanted portion of the picture.
The B&W version:
The second version left the tent and unwanted part in black and white but emphasized the color of the trees. I still find the tent portion of the shot distracting.
So I put the color back into that area. It works better (I think)
In this last version I cropped out that unsightly mess, but in order to keep the same proportions I lost a lot of keyboard and therefore some "depth". Below are the B&W version and the B&W w color.
All this is to say - that sometimes post-production simply cannot fix a photo. 😎
