Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to chat about a fun bit of nature I experienced the other day!
Don't Get Struck
There are some things that we enjoy as adults, that bring us back to being a kid!
I love any chance in which I can sit back and feel like a kiddo again. Thunderstorms are such an event!
The summertime is a wonderful time, but mid to late summer like we are in now, is a wonderful time because it brings with it lots of thunderstorms! Thunderstorms are a fun time, where the really good ones give you a show for hours but I take the short ones just as well!
There's something about the flash of lightning and crack of thunder that really makes it a fun thing to experience. My son doesn't particularly care for it, but that's okay, I think he will eventually enjoy it but he is still at the age where he gets scared about things like that.
We had a REALLY good thunderstorm the other day, where it started and lasted almost 2 hours! It was amazing, and lots of great white and bright flashes. We even got a close crack of thunder or two, the ones that really rumble the shit out of the local area and make it a lot of fun. I love, although how rare it is, when a bolt of lightning seems to strike a few hundred feet away instead of thousands of feet or over a mile away. It really adds to the wonder when EVERYTHING shakes violently from the explosion!
I am going to have to find the pictures I took of one lightning storm. It ended up being a video, but I got it frame by frame and captured some pretty dope flashes of lightning! Of course I've never been lucky enough to get an actual photo of a lightning strike, but there's still time for me to do it let me tell you! Lol.
It also makes me think of the places in the world that have crazy amounts of thunder and lightning. I've seen a bunch of photos where volcanos will erupt and send unbelievable bolts of lightning blasting through the sky. Those ones are insane! It's really cool to see the bolts of lightning that fly across the sky sideways instead of hitting the ground. I think one of them was in Italy if I recall correctly, where one of the mountains was getting really pissed off and it was sending shit all over the place. One day, I'll see that in person!
I think one of the things I enjoyed about this particular lightning session was standing outside, sheltered in the awning of the building of course, just hanging out for 5 minutes watching it and enjoying it. I think it's really important that we take a few minutes to take a step back and enjoy those types of things. Does it really hurt our day to take a step back and enjoy the wonder of nature for a few minutes? Absolutely not! I know that a lot of people don't think twice about it, and actually get annoyed when they see inclement weather like that but I find it really fascinating and enjoyable. We know a lot about the world, but at the same time we don't!
What about you, do you find that you enjoy small things like a bit of lightning storms? Let me know in the comments!
