Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to appreciate getting up and GOING.
Get Up and Go
I finally did it!
I finally was able to make some decent progress and get off my ass...
I'd been saying for a while, particularly since my son is back in school now, that I need to get off my ass and get out for a walk in the mornings. I need to get me some exercise!
Exercise and being fit is one of the most important things that we can do as an adult. It is VERY easy to just be lazy, but that absolutely leads to a lot of health issues in the future, which because we are older, makes it harder to get past. I was the typical adult and procrastinated getting out there in the morning and going for a walk, but eventually I just said buck up buttercup, and went for it!
It certainly seems like some weakling behavior, but there are a lot of things that go on on a daily basis that we tell ourselves are more important and needed. We justify away needing to get out and do the most important thing of all: take care of ourselves. Eventually though, you have to just commit and do it.
I didn't go for an incredibly long walk, but that's how it starts. I hit the pavement for 20 minutes the first time, and then 25 the second time. I'm in decent shape, I guess, for my age but even doing those walks, I was reminded that I am for SURE not 20 anymore. My body was trying to rebel against me for sure!
I think it comes down to what I've talked about before, that our body REALLY wants to be as efficient as possible. It's got a lot of systems and shit, but one of the things it loves to do is turn things off because it consumes less energy. It works well in a lot of situations, but it leads to some challenges in others. Especially for Americans where we tend to spend more time indoors.. it gets problematic!
My body went into efficiency mode with my legs, and those shits were roaring and complaining when I was on my walk. They didn't give out but the lymphatic system down there was PISSED. I got home and my legs were burning hahaha it was not happy!
This has happened to me before, and it's resolved after the 3rd or 4th walk, so it's not a big issue but it's for sure a reminder that when we put things off like getting some exercise, we will suffer some consequences as a result.
I don't have the greatest motivation in the world to be out there, but I've thankfully hit the pavement twice, once a week so far the last 2 weeks which is a great start. Eventually I'd love to be out there every other morning and work up to every morning for at least a short walk. I need to make sure that some mornings I spend the ENTIRE morning just on a long fucking walk, really fuck some shit up and hit the day proper!
What about you, do you try to make it a point to get off your ass and exercise? What got you out there? Let me know in the comments!
