Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to share a few photos in black and white of my garden late this summer!
Growth Monochrome Monday
The garden.. it's something that I haven't shared much this summer!
I've been keeping a garden, albeit small, on the deck for a few years now. It's been a great thing, because it gives me something to consistently do and take care of which is important. It's nice not having to do some things all the time, but growing our own sustenance is a pretty basic and important thing to do, even if the sustenance is just normal things like tomatoes and some herbs!
This year the little man switched it up, which is cool. He got some pretty cool flowers!
I've not really kept any flowers on the deck, mainly because the garden was more for things we would actually consume but I think I'm going to switch that up for the future! Growing the flowers too, along with the plants, has been a cool thing for me. I've actually quite enjoyed having the fellas on the deck with me and the rest of the plants!
The same thing happens every year though, with the plants. We try something new and realize that it's just not working out hahaha. We added a different kind of tomato plant this year which is normally okay, but sadly the same crap happened this year that happened last. It's not getting enough calcium with the fertilizer that we use, so the thing ends up giving us gross tomatoes instead of delicious healthy ones. Damn it! Lol. Still though, I'm growing the plants to keep them going as it doesn't really require a whole lot of effort and I think that the air-cleaning benefits outweigh the annoyance that the plants are not giving us the food that we want them to.
The summer has been pretty hot though, as well! I am certainly enjoying it, considering we had a crazy wet spring this year, and I was afraid that we'd have a really brutal summer with a shitload of rain lol. That was a few years ago, and sure we need rain but it sucks when it's allllll the time. I don't know how people who live in Seattle do it.. it's depressing hahaha. Maybe that's why they seem to be fucked up..
The basil plants have been rioting against me this year! They are CONSTANTLY flowering which is annoying because that kills the rest of the plant. It focuses solely on flowering and it will stop growing good leaves, and end up making the existing leaves taste pretty bitter and strong. It's a constant battle, plucking the flowers these days!
I do enjoy sitting on the deck and taking a few photos for my yearly reference. It's funny to look back at last years garden, and the year before, where things were placed and all that to compare it to this year.
