Old Style Relaxing

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to appreciate getting to hang out, but also NOT do something in particular!

Old Style Relaxing

Every so often, we spend time in a situation and decide that we shouldn't do a few things!

The other day, we made some good friends at an event for my kids school. We were chatting with the parents, among others, for several hours. It was pretty great and enjoyable!

We made closer friends with one set of parents, as the kids get along well so that was nice. We hung out at the event for the most part with them and then we ended up having a good time, so we took it back to their house and the kids played in the pool while we were continuing to have a good time chatting! It was a wonderful afternoon for sure, one I haven't had in a really long time.

The family got a house that was beyond anywhere I'd be expecting to live, let me say that lol. It was an absolutely beautiful place, situation in an amazing environment! I was exploring around the property with the dad, shooting the shit and talking about random stuff. We got to the backyard and the view was AWESOME! I was fucking stoked lol but at the same time, I also was very cognizant of not being an asshole and flipping out my phone to snap some photos.

I for sure wanted to, but I also wanted to make sure that I was leaving a good impression on the family. They were cool as shit, both the husband and the wife, and I know we will spend more time with them over the school year which should be an awesome thing. I think I actually ended up enjoying NOT taking the photos, even though I wanted to, more than I think I would have enjoyed the photos. I spent more direct time with the dad on the shared interests that we had, while soaking in the incredible view, so that was for sure the better thing to do!

I think all too often these days, we focus on getting the picture of the place rather than just enjoying and living in the moment. Sure it's awesome to have a photo of something, but I think in some situations it takes away from being present with the people around us, which is the most important part.

I will for sure remember the view from the spot, as it was truly unreal, but I knew that it was more important for me to have a good time with the dad. Talk about the things that we both enjoyed mutually, and just take time to disconnect from the technology reality that we live in. I suspect that in one of the subsequent times we hang out with them at their house, I will be able to get the photo that I'd like, but for now, it was really important not to.

I think this ended up being a good move because later on, there were some comments about the way the world is going and how people are so focused on trying to show shit off on the various media platforms. In that, we for sure agree on every level.

I think back, after the time spent hanging out, that I got some subconscious signal that I DON'T take a photo, because it will ruin the vibe and I might not have been able to repair that. First impressions are crucial in terms of the chances of continuing a friendship. I don't know if it was a successful time truly, because people can say one thing but do another. I would like to think that I could hang out with them again if they wanted to, I sure would like to, so we'll see.

Sometimes NOT doing something, is far more important. It was for me on this occasion!

What about you, do you try to make judgment calls for situations like this? Have you made many good ones? Let me know in the comments!
