Training kids has to be one of the most difficult responsibilities for adults since there is no written manual on how it should be done. Humans all have different personalities most of which begins from childhood thus adding a sense of unpredictability into this role as what might work for one child might spell the doom for another.
I am not a parent yet but I was once a kid and have tutored kids as well so I believe I should some insight to have their minds work and an idea to giving them the best environment for growth
There are diverse methods in the realm of parenting which are predominantly unique to certain parts of the globe. In some areas (especially in Africa) children are groomed to live their lives in an open home with limited privacy where their parents have full access to their rooms whenever they went supporting this style as protecting kids from the temptations of the outside world. This is mainly common with the girl child as this part of society believes that they should be closely monitored to both regulate their behaviors and protect them from predators. That's not saying the boy child doesn't also get this treatment as well however it is not as extreme as their counterpart.
Others allow kids to have their privacy giving them the privilege of having their own doors which signifies the room as their personal space. This style is very popular amongst the Western part of the world and kids brought up like this have shown to be independent from a young age. Parents who employ the privacy ideology believe that this kids are their own person and should be treated as such having a sense of responsibility to all their actions. Both the open door and the privacy policy are both very important yet they each come with their own shortcomings. The former breeds insecure adults most of whom can't wait to leave their homes just to explore out of the restrictions that comes with being constantly police by their parents while the latter if not properly handled corrupts the so called independent kids into spoil brats. To get the best possible outcome a form of equilibrium needs to be emphasized.

Children should be informed that even though they have been given privacy to have their own space, they can also lose it when they misbehave and will only get it back when they have proved without any reasonable doubt that they earned back this right. Also parents should also notify the kids that there certain occasions where their doors have to remain open for safety purposes one of which is when a friend of the opposite sex comes to visit and they decide to spend time in their rooms. So in cases like this it is advisable to leave the door open.
While the above recommendations might be acceptable in my opinion, it is safe to know that it might not work for everybody. Parents need to find what clicks for their respective families, capitalize on it without jeopardizing the welfare of the kids. Grooming kids is no walk in the park but I believe with a determined mindset and the right tools, the desired objective is achievable. Thank you
