In a world filled with fakes and people wearing masks to cloud their true personalities, meeting people who legitimately have your best interest at heart ready to go to extreme lengths to ensure that your well-being is prioritized even at their own expense has to be one of life's most underrated privilege. The fact that that these people will always turn up for you whenever you need them regardless of whether or not the communication is on regular basis must be a gift from the heavens, sadly only very few people get to experience this and luckily for be I got to witness it in a way that it almost brought tears down my cheeks.

After spending 10 days at home to prepare myself for my real service, I decided it was time to return back to my place of primary assignment. I woke up super early on the 3rd of September, got dressed and headed to the bus park to commence my journey back to Ilaje ondo state. I got to the park by 6:49 paid for my fare but due to the fact that there were very few passengers on that day, we had to wait till the bus was full before moving and that took 5 whole hours. The journey to Ilaje was a 15 hours trip and sadly the bus was stopping at Akure meaning I had to board another vehicle before I csn get to my final destination.

The bus zoomed off by 12 pm with 18 passengers already frustrated from the delay. The driver did everything he could to ensure we get to our destinations as soon as possible but sadly we were already 5 hours behind schedule. I was already worried because by my calculations I would be reaching Akure by nothing less than 10 pm with 5 hours still ahead of me and since I hated travelling in the dark due to insecurity issues, I was already thinking of locating the closest police station to spend the night.

By 8:33 pm we were already in Owo a community close to Akure. The driver stopped to drop off a passenger and while he was offloading his cargo, I remembered I had a friend who stays in Akure. Mind you I only bonded with this guy for the three weeks in camp and we only communicated twice after we both got seperated so I was a little skeptical about asking him for a favor but decided to call him regardless. I picked up my phone, dailed his number and we started talking like old friends. I immediately told him about my predicament and how I did not want to bother him but because I had no other choice, I decided to ask for his assistance. The first thing he said was "where are you?" And when I gave him my location he only instructed me to give him a call when I finally get to akure that he'll be there to pick me up.

When we finally got to the park in Akure, I was so shocked to find him already there waiting for me. I almost broke down, it has been awhile someone did something this incredible for me. Not only was he waiting for me he paid for the taxi that took me to his place, fed me and also took care of my brief stay at his place with an open invitation to come over whenever I get the chance. This felt like something that only happens in fairy tales and what made it feel even better was the fact that we've only been friends for a month🥺🥺.

I still call him occasionally to thank him for such a beautiful hospitality and in my heart he will always be that hero who saved me at a time of need.
