A few weeks ago, a senior colleague in the office where I worked started bringing accessories like watches, jewelries etc for other staff to buy. At first it all seemed like a periodic thing until she made a daily hustle even bringing fabrics and perfumes as well which surprisingly were beneficial to her because she never returns home the same way she came as people where always patronizing her even office clients. The weeks that followed was characterized with people trooping in and out of the office to see and get a grab of the new goods she brought with her and myself being her assistant, I was somehow roped into this whole business venture.

Amazed by hustle and still kinda shocked from her choices, I decided to ask her a question for the purpose of clarity. She always told me how she loved her job and did not see herself doing anything else so I was low-key surprised she was hustling in the office. I asked her why she was putting in more effort into the business than the very job she claimed to love? Her response was that passion would not allow her to live comfortably in this current economy and let's be honest, she's not wrong.

Back in the day a lot of people engaged in ventures and fields of livelihood that they shared a deep interest in and passion for it definitely pays off both in the short and long run. In some cases this even goes as far as opening doors for people around you to benefit creating a sustainable development. But in this recent times nobody wants to engage in anything that doesn't seem profitable even though it is what their heart really yearns for just like my senior colleague. She even admitted to hating the business but she just has to do it because of the financial benefits attached to it.

The moment you tell someone that this is what you want to do the first thing they'll ask you is not even if you like it or not? But if it has the potential to make you a billion. Institutions like schools and healthcare centers that were supposed to help the people are now full blown structures strictly for profit maximization even whether it is owned by the government or private individuals. The world is being controlled by capitalist tendencies and with it comes the heated competition to win in the everyday business of live. With the way society is evolving, I don't see capitalism fizzling out anytime soon and in the next so distant future there's a possibility that looking at the sky might be a cash grab opportunity.

Realistically speaking, I don't think we can ever go back to the times when finances was the secondary purpose of engaging in any profession. Even though there are people who genuinely engage in their jobs because they love it, these set of people end up getting exploitated and poorly compensated for their hardwork. Seeing that all their efforts are not properly rewarded, they in turn change their passion for the job into a quest for money and so the endless cycle continues. As long as there are two classes in the society ( the bourgeois and the working class), working will always be centered on money making first and there is no remedy for it. Anybody who suggests otherwise is just trying to propound theories that are definitely worthless in current day society thank you THANK YOU
