As a schoolboy, the one thing I looked forward to every year was what followed after the stressful semester and that is The Holidays. Growing up did not in any way alter my perspective towards it instead the struggles of being an adult made my love for the holidays increase exponentially. If working an 8-6 job has taught hustlers anything it's that we all want a time off from our constant busy schedule. Everyday we wake up super early to head over to a tasking job, retiring home late and exhausted only to repeat the same routine for six whole days of the week. The one thing people within this category crave for is rest and would leap at the opportunity if their finances will allow one to present itself.
Holidays are fun and everybody wants them ranging from the oldies all the way down to the kids. It helps ease stress, rewind and even forget about life stress especially if they are attached to a celebration. Till this very day I still believe we don't have enough holidays on the calendar and the ones we do have do not exceed more than two days because they are tied to religion. Breaks from the office that lasts up to a month only happen once in a year and if you ask the workers what they think about it, majority of them will tell you it is obviously not enough. Having more holidays added to the country's calendar doesn't sound like such a bad idea and although it might seem like a loss to the owners of the means of production, the actual force behind production gets to benefit from the rest both their minds and bodies so desperately needs. Workers are not the only ones who need holidays, even mothers, children, couples etc all need holidays to enjoy their stay on this physical plane. However despite the relevance of extra holidays in the country, too much of it will cost more harm than its intended purpose.
In 2019 I decided to go on a complete two month rest from work as I believed I have been working nonstop and could use a breather. My employer and I were pretty close so he only told me that when I was ready to work again his business will always be open to welcome me again. The first few days felt like paradise, I woke up when I wanted, slept when it suited me and enjoyed myself without a care in the world but after the third week I began to miss working. The idea of just laying around all day sounds fascinating until your pocket starts to run dry. I became extremely broke and could not afford the basic things that did not seem like an issue became unaffordable. Staying at home became unbearable and because of the constant issues that required finances to sort (which I did not have because I wasn't working) my holiday was cut short and went back to work before the two months was exhausted.
My experience is a clear example of what will happen when too much holiday becomes the other of the day in the country. It will not only affect the economy of the country domestically but even countries far and wide will be scared of engaging with them. Thank you
