A New Beginning with Water Access in Wurapong

This week is another significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to provide safe, reliable water to a community in need. Planning and meetings have taken place for the construction of a new borehole in Wurapong, a community in Offinso, Ashanti Region. This is not just another borehole but a milestone because it will be the 23rd borehole constructed with funding from Hive blockchain. We have received many calls and messages over the years from communities that have faced challenges with water access. Each call is disheartening, but when we decide where to put boreholes we always make it a point to prioritize areas who are the most desperate. Wurapong is like one of those communities. It is not very large community and most residents there are farmers and for a long time, their only source of water was river water that is unsafe for domestic consumption. Families have endured for years using river water for drinking and cooking with all the health challenges that comes with it.  Getting to a community like Wurapong is no easy task. The roads are untarred, rough and bumpy, and getting to the community is very challenging, especially during the rainy season. However, we believe in going to where the need is greatest even when it is difficult. The commitment to empower those in deprived areas is what motivates us to keep pushing on. We are pleased to report that even through the hurdles, the team made it to Wurapong, met with the assemblyman, the chief and the community members. Drillers have conducted the on-site survey to established the situation on the ground and to know the best place to site the borehole. The community's excitement and appreciation of the project was palpable. To the resdients it's more than just about a water project; for them it represents health, dignity and a chance to a better life. Starting the project in Wurapong felt like the start of a new chapter. The construction has commenced; the borehole is going will go through 3 phases like we always do. And for a community who has been waiting for years, it is motivating to see the first signs of change. Their children will spend more time in school, the farmers will return from working in the fields refreshed with clean safe water, and the families will gain relief from the water borne illnesses that plague them. As we move forward with construction, we will share updates to keep everyone informed on the progress. But as work continues in Wurapong, we also look forward to extending the impacts to other communities that are equally in simialr situation. Every borehole is a victory and it is also a reference point of Hive's blockchain potential to create change in a real-life. Every new borehole is more than just a project, it is a transformation and a step closer to safe water being a basic human right.
