There is a saying that never trust the loyalty of a poor man; wait till he has money, and then you will understand his reason for being loyal. While growing up, my mom would say, These friends might not be your friends forever; some will change if they have money, get married, or even enter a higher institution before you.
As God would have it, I and my friends entered a higher institution once life was tough for us all. But if you are very observant, you will know which of your friends will switch up on you even before things get better for them.
I overheard one of our friends one day saying that if she gets married before us, she won't be friends with us again because what will she, a married woman, be doing with single women? After our NYSC, she got married, and true to her words ,she started acting up. Others were surprised, but I wasn't because I had heard it from her already.
I stop communicating too, not because I was angry, but because I respect her decision. She was only communicating with others that had been married for almost 4 years; she didn't speak to me, and I didn't either. But I was always talking well with the rest of the married ones.
I can be very petty because nobody can be too busy for anybody that they love or find to be important. No matter how busy I am, if I miss my friend's call, I will return it even if it's not that day, but I will before the week runs out. That's how it's supposed to be.
I learned to communicate no matter how little when I found out my friend had died a year ago and had been buried without my notice. I wept because I was too busy and not returning calls. Meanwhile, we can actually check up on them in that small leisure time for lunch, a nap, or after service on Sunday. Back to my married friend: she called me one day out of the blue not because she wanted to check up on me but because she needed my help, which wasn't available at the time she was asking.
Since then she blocked me everywhere, and that ended our friendship until one day I saw her calls again, but I refused to return them, and to date, I honestly didn't care again. I actually switch up on everybody and stay in my lane because of that. If you are too busy, I become equally busy. I have a friend that is very busy, but every weekend we will talk at length; after that it might be another weekend again.
Not the ones that are busy with, nothing serious that they are doing but call you only when they need you. Right now I am for people that are for me.
