The most dominant colors in my wardrobe are black and white, and it’s something that gradually happened over time. At first, I just liked how clean and simple they looked. White gives off a fresh, light, and calm vibe, while black brings elegance, strength, and a bit of mystery. I didn't plan it, but I kept reaching for pieces in those shades whenever I went shopping, probably because they always looked sharp and easy to style.
It actually started with shoes. I went to get a shoe for a friend's wedding, and all the colors I saw weren't looking stunning like a pair of black and white shoes that were in the shoe rack at the shoe section. Although that wasn't the color I was supposed to pick, I just loved the mixture of both colors.I picked it to pay for it. Another time I went just for window shopping out of boredom.
I spotted a pretty black stiletto heel with a matching gown. I didn't realize my feet had moved before I could think. I was already paying for it. I love denim jeans; almost all of mine are in black, just a few in other colors. My gowns, whether already made, thrifts, or sewn, are mostly in white and black. I only started adding other colors because my friends decided that black and white were too much in my closet, when I'm not a police officer or a banker.
Eventually, black and white became my signature colors. Together, they strike a perfect balance: minimal yet classy, bold yet effortless. Whether it's a crisp white shirt with black trousers or a monochrome dress, the combination always looks neat and timeless. I love how they match with anything and work for almost any occasion, formal, casual, or somewhere in between.
