Hello friends and Hivers. It's been a while since I flexed on some ice cream. I'm feeling happy and excited about the days ahead. So today I was craving ice cream and I took care of it!
I went to my phone and searched for ice cream shops. I was kind of looking for something a little unique that had good reviews. I decided on a place called Stensland Family Farms Ice Cream. It's located at 3101 West 41st St Unit 109, Sioux Falls, SD 57105.
First off, a little background on the place. The place is family owned and they actually do have a farm, which is a dairy farm located in Larchwood, Iowa. Larchwood is about 30 miles from Sioux Falls. They do incorporate their dairy farm products into their ice creams.
Being family owned, I thought it was neat as they also sell their own ice cream in bigger take-home quantities. All with their own brand packaging, looks just like buying from the grocery store. Not just ice cream either they sell cheese balls, sliced cheese, milks and an assortment of other items as well all from the family farm. Oh cheese balls! They go with ice cream like their related 😆
Well I knew what I wanted before coming here. Just a cone with a scoop or two of ice cream. I just didn't know which flavor. It took me a little bit of time looking through the glass because they have 48 flavors of hand scooped ice creams. There were 4 separate signs that listed the flavors along with what is in it. Their menu is absolutely insane. You can get malts, shakes, floats, sundaes, soft serve ice cream (well over 20 different flavors) and even coffee inspired ice cream drinks. I just couldn't take pictures of them all because I would have looked like a creep. I've been to many ice cream shops, but this one takes the cake as far as the sure number of ice cream items.
The ambiance of the place is relaxing. It's not a huge floor place, probably about 10 tables. Maybe 45 people would be there full capcity. They do have a few benches outside as well for the outdoor experience. I like the ice cream signage. it's very fitting for the place. They had older country music playing stuff that seemed to relate to country or farm life.
Well I'm sure your wondering what I got and what I thought about it. I got the flavor of the month, which was called Sweet Corn. Its vanilla ice cream with blended sweet corn in it. I matched my double scoop ice cream with a flavored butterscotch waffle cone. I love sweet corn and I thought it would be over bearing with that corn taste but it was not it was absolutely delicious. Certainly not what I imagined, but you can taste the sweet corn and it surprisingly goes well with the vanilla ice cream .You can have up to 4 taste samples. I only took two and stopped after trying this one. I had a hard time finishing this, but I did. Hey, you can't throw ice cream away and surely can't take a cone with you and eat it later.
Oh previously, they told me they have had cheese pizza ice cream. I would definitely get a taste test of that one. How about you would you try pizza ice cream? Sounds like dinner wrapped up in dessert, hehe.
I would give this place a 9 out 10 rating. The only thing I would knock them on is cost. My double scooped ice cream cost me nearly $10. There are a lot of unique variety ice cream flavors here, so a little more might be warranted. I'd go back surely just to see what other flavors they might create.
Hope you liked my ice cream experience I certainly did, hehe. Take care, stay safe and have an ice cream!
