Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. It's the second edition of the Hive Learners' weekly writing prompt, and we take a look at the subject of first aid.
Upon seeing this topic, I remember some time ago the church I attended brought individuals from the Red Cross to give us hands-on training in first aid.
But you see, knowledge not put into practice can easily be forgotten. This is not to say I don't exactly remember everything, but there hasn't been a need for the knowledge to be used, and it's all thanks to God.
However, first aid, as we know, is the treatment given to a patient before medical professionals attend to the victim of an accident or an emergency health situation.
A person's knowledge of first aid might just be the tiny line between life and death for a victim, be it performing CPR or stopping bleeding or even applying ointment on a victim of a fire outbreak.
As someone who played football a lot when I was younger, I had seen people get bruises and dislocations, and once I was in a collision that led to a fractured leg of my opponent at the time, and boy, I was so scared knowing that he was the one who even committed the offense since I was the man with the ball.
We carried him out of the field and sat him down, and then someone who was more experienced started to feel the leg with his hand until he found the location. Since the boy in question was screaming and couldn't even show him where it hurt, we got a hot balm, which was rubbed on the leg, after which he was taken to the hospital, where an X-ray was taken to know the extent of the damage.
He finally got on his feet and back to the field after about four months; the legs had to be bandaged so it could go back into position.
I have also had my own share of football injuries and the last before I stopped playing football was a dislocation of my right wrist and it became an issue because I didn't pay attention and no first aid was given to me after I fell, I only woke up the next morning to find I could move the hand and they single incident got me to the federal medical center here in Abeokuta Nigeria.
I was told that I had to see an orthopedic doctor which would only be around by the next week all thanks to God someone around me had some local knowledge about the issue so he was the one who gave me some treatment back at home because I practically couldn't do anything with the hand, until after about 3 days when this guy had constantly helped me massage the hand morning and evening.
The importance of first aid can never be overemphasized because you don't need to be a doctor to save lives because a small gesture of fist aid could just be the reason a life is saved.
So I think I will love to attend a refresher course on first aid because you never know when an emergency will occur and the best time to prepare for an emergency is before one occurs because your knowledge of that emagency could be the game changer.
Thanks for stopping by.
