If education is expensive, try ignorance, they say.
This statement actually brings to light the fact that the price of ignorance can be pretty severe if a person is uneducated in a particular area.
Education is the best legacy you can give. There is a handful of benefits the educational system teaches. We understand that the system in itself isn't enough because there are other aspects it doesn't cover.
But looking at the bright side, we see that most of the exercises that we went through in school have helped us to imbibe some cultures.
The school system teaches you consistency and diligence, amongst other things. You also find out that a lot of opportunities in the corporate world are first open to those within the four walls of an educational system, either a university, polytechnic, or college of education.
As a student of agriculture recently, I was called upon by someone who is going into farming, and based on the knowledge I got from school about spacing and planting population, I was able to calculate the number of plants that will be in the plot of land.
And not too long ago I also saw an advert, which I applied for but didn't get, and it was for the role of an agronomist who was going to pick any plant of their choice for a market analysis for sales and basically from planting to sale and marketing.
And the reason why I didn't get the offer was the fact that I didn't know the market, and that's where other aspects of education come in—that students are grounded in their areas of academics and in all other areas.
Currently, bridging the paycheck disparity between academic staff and staff of other professional sectors has led to the increase in the academic tuitions of students.
And this is all thanks to the fact that the government in my country has said they are giving the academic sector an autonomous power to stand alone.
Which means that they now cater for their running costs, projects, and all other aspects, which means students have to pay a higher amount.
The school system in my country, especially in the public schools, needs a lot of infrastructural development in order to match up with the standards in private schools and the world at large.
During my days in school I found out that the curriculum hasn't changed because what was taught to people from five sets ago is still the same as the things that we do, and you see some lecturers even tell you to get their materials from people ahead of you.
In a dynamic and changing world you can possibly cause a change by doing the same things, and so innovative ways of effective teaching need to be looked upon, also for the fact that students are different and learn in different ways.
The curriculum needs to be built in such a way that it meets every student at their level because of the difference in human processing capacity.
Anytime I am able to use the knowledge acquired in school, it reminds me that the struggle was actually worth it. I still remember how a friend who studied animal breeding and genetics was talking about how he was somewhere and they were talking about fish breeding; while it sounded strange to people around, he could relate to it.
So while having an education is still valid, a balance needs to be struck so that people can actually get access to quality education.
Thanks for stopping by.
